Year 4, each week you continue to wow me with your amazing skills!

In our English lessons this week, we have been continuing to learn our letter text. The children have used actions to recall the paragraphs. We have also been learning some key spag skills to add to their writing. We have been focusing on using fronted adverbials in our writing. The children have learnt how to add fronted adverbials to their work and then showcased these skills in a short burst write. We have also created a toolkit for writing a letter and boxed up the text into the structure. We will use this to create our own plan next week.

In our Maths lessons this week, we have been learning about skills to check our working out. The children have learnt how to use equivalent difference to make an answer easier to calculate mentally but by keeping the difference between the numbers we are adding or subtracting the same. We have also learnt how to use inverse operations to check our calculations. Later on in the week, we have been learning how to answer problem solving questions. We have considered what the question is asking and the best method to use. For some activities, we have been using bar models which show comparisons.

During our computing lessons this week, we have been learning how to use excel. We started our lesson by logging on to our class Google Drive. The children will use this during each of our project lessons to access our learning and complete the activities. In our lesson this week, we have learnt how to make our own copy of a spreadsheet, input data into cells and edit the information. We are now able to change the size of font, change the colour of a font and change the colour of a cell. We will continue to learn how to use excel in order to create a graph.

In our wellbeing lessons this week, we had some art time. We have been learning the story 'The Colour Monster'. In preparation for our worship, we made our very own colour monster characters. The children loved expressing their feelings through creating the colour monsters and I must say, they look fantastic! We will use these across classes as resources and they will become part of our new wellbeing display!

In History this week, we have been learning about the hierarchy of people in Anglo-Saxon Britain. We learnt about each class of person and explored what their life would have been like. The children were given scenario cards and asked to ask out the situation. The children then thought about the class of person that they would have liked to have been.

We started our new unit of RE this week. This terms focus is on how good news is shared throughout the Christmas story. In our first lesson, we recalled the Christmas story using stick puppets. The children loved using these to act out the story. We then considered how the characters shared good news throughout their role in the story. The children recorded these ideas in their books.

During our Science lesson this week, we wrote letters to Mrs Chesters explaining the findings of our recent soundproofing experiment. We explained to Mrs Chesters the material which would work best to soundproof our music room.

Throughout our week, we have been working really hard to prepare for our Year 4 worship. We loved sharing this with you on Friday. The children worked really hard to learn their lines and practise our song. Well done to each and every one of you. You made me one very proud teacher.

I am really looking forward to seeing what amazing things we achieve this week.
