Pictograms and tally charts have been our focus in Maths this week as we begin our statistics unit of work. We are learning how important it is to check the key as we draw the data as a picture in a pictogram.
In our spelling job, we have looked closely at the ch spelling making c, and at the same time recapped our spelling rule when we add ing and ed to words that end in e.
In reading this week, we explored lots of different Roald Dahl books, which will link to this term's art project. You all chose one to read at home and this will inform your clay structure of a Roald Dahl object or character we will make in a couple of weeks. We decided to read Esio Trot as a class too. It has been lovely to see lots of your book reviews coming in already and see you enjoying these books.
In RE this week, we continued on with the unit Rules for Living. We recapped our rules, why we have rules and we learnt all about the 10 Commandments and how Moses was asked to the tell the people the Rules for Living from God. We learnt about 10 commandments and explored which one we thought was the most important and why. We then wrote our own 10 commandments for 2025. You decided to keep some the same but added in your own, like 'look after the environment' and 'don't drop litter.'
As geographers, our task was to get to know what coastal erosion means. We began by looking at how bays and headlands are formed. A handy stop motion video helped us to learn that the land can be eroded by the wind and sea. We enjoyed getting to know other coastal features like arches, stacks and stumps and we drew pictures and labelled diagrams to explain what happens.
In PSHE, we learnt about the importance of friendships that are built from a solid foundation of truth. We referred to the bible story about the wise man and the foolish man, where the wise man built his house on rock. Matthew 7:24. We thought about friendships that may be built on materials like jelly, sand or a wobbly pyramid and what that might feel like. We then decided on the building blocks we would like for our friendships. As a class we decided truth, trust, hope, peace and love.
For this last half-term of our Year 3 music learning journey, we will be working our way through a music unit called – Opening Night. To begin this week's lesson, we looked at the social question – How does music connect to our planet? This question made us reflect on our SingFest songs as they were all about the environment. We then listened to a song entitled – 'Michael Row the Boat Ashore.'
