What a fantastic and full week we've had in Year 3!
In English, you've planned and written your own wonderfully mischievous stories, inspired by Seen and Not Heard. Your characters leapt out of their picture frames at night and caused absolute mayhem! It's been such a joy to read your imaginative and exciting writing--your creativity really shone through. We have also had a focus on the meaning and spelling of there, their and they're. We completed quizzes and partner work to get to know these homophones. This week's homework will consolidate this.
In maths, we continued exploring fractions, including adding, subtracting, and converting whole numbers into fractions. You've shown brilliant focus and understanding. We also revisited our money work--recognising coins, adding them together, and brushing up on our column addition and subtraction skills. It was great to see how confidently you worked through these important real-life maths problems.
Tuesday was a very special day as you led our Class Worship. You spoke clearly and confidently about the next part of our Nature Parks project, and it was a real celebration of everything you've achieved in Year 3 so far. You shared your personal successes with such pride--it made us feel incredibly proud too. A huge well done to you all!
Just before worship, families were invited into our Y3 Art Gallery, where your recent creations were on display. Your art looked fantastic, and we hope everyone enjoyed seeing the results of your hard work and creativity.
In history, we wrapped up our learning about the Ancient Egyptians. You brought together all your knowledge--artefacts, daily life, the importance of the River Nile, and their religious beliefs--to answer our big question: Were the Ancient Egyptians a civilised society like ours? Your final presentations were thoughtful, detailed, and beautifully presented. What a great end to a fascinating topic!
As geographers, we have recapped what human and physical features are, and used this knowledge to look at these features within a coastal city, Brighton. We enjoyed watching a virtual tour, looking at photos and getting to know what Brighton has using an OS map.
In PE, we have been learning how to be effective wicket keepers and the importance of having backup when on the fielding team. Year 3, you can show how to stand ready and explain why backup is needed. After a game that helped us work on the specific skills of wicket keeping, we also played some more matches.
In PSHE, we have continued to look at how images can be altered online. This allowed us to think about our uniqueness and how important it is to let other people know how special they are. We wrote postcards with lots of wonderful messages. This links to 'I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way.' Psalm 139:14
Homework has been emailed out and a printed sheet has also been sent home with your child today.
Have a lovely, restful weekend--you've earned it!
