Happy Friday Team!
In our morning lessons this week, we have been working really hard on our quizzes. We did lots of reading, answered maths questions, and even completed a quiz all about punctuation, suffixes, and prefixes. In maths, we focused on numbers from 50 to 100 and practised counting in tens, which helped us feel more confident with bigger numbers. In the afternoons, we explored odd and even numbers, and we also worked on finding one more and one less than a given number. It's been a busy week, but we've learned so much!
We had a great morning on our trip to the village for litter picking! Everyone was so polite and careful as we walked together, making sure to stay safe and look after each other. We looked really carefully around the village and picked up any litter we could find -- it felt good to help keep our community clean. While we were there, we also stopped to look at the ruins of the tower and talked about our history project, which made the trip even more interesting. It was a lovely morning, and we had so much fun being kindness agents to the environment!
In our RE lesson this week, we continued learning about creation. We read the Bible story about how the world was made and found out that Christians believe God created everything in it. We worked together to recall what happened in the story and talked about our favourite parts. Then, we drew pictures of our favourite things that God created -- there were lots of animals, trees, and stars! After that, we went outside to look for natural creations from God and noticed so many beautiful things, like flowers, leaves, and the sky. It was a lovely way to appreciate the world around us.
We were very lucky to have four Year 3 children join our music lesson this week! They came to help us learn the actions for our class worship ready for Friday, and we loved having them with us. After that, we talked about this week's song – In the Sea. We had so much fun moving to the music and choosing a sea animal to be during the song. Some of us then answered reflection questions and shared our thoughts with the class. It was a fun and thoughtful lesson filled with music, movement, and teamwork!
In our Geography lesson this week, we continued learning about the North and South Poles. We explored more information about the Arctic Ocean and the continent of Antarctica. We discovered that the Arctic Ocean is actually warmer than Antarctica because the water absorbs heat from the sun, while Antarctica is covered in thick ice. To help us remember what we learned, we sorted words and facts into the correct columns for the Arctic and Antarctica. It was really interesting to compare the two places and find out how they are similar and different!
In our Heartsmart lesson this week, we learned all about tummy talk. We talked about the different kinds of secrets people might keep and how some secrets can be good -- the kind that give us excited butterflies in our tummy -- while others can give us an "uh oh" feeling. We discussed how important it is to listen to that feeling and tell a trusted adult if something doesn't feel right. We listened to different scenarios and thought carefully about what kind of feelings they would give us. It really helped us understand how to stay safe and look after our hearts and minds.
In our computing lesson this week, we continued using the ScratchJr app. Our aim was to make the cat sprite move across the screen by following an algorithm. We had to carefully work out where the cat would move to and join the coding blocks together in the right order. We found the start block and the end block, then added movement blocks in between to complete the sequence. It was really fun exploring the app, and we loved using the iPads to bring our code to life!
In our PE lesson this week, we started with a fun warm-up game of Spiderman Tag, where we had to move quickly and carefully to avoid getting tagged. The main focus of the lesson was on jumping, and we talked about how momentum helps us jump further and more powerfully. Our first activity was the Rock, Paper, Scissors hoop game. We were in two teams, hopping, leaping, or jumping through hoops. When we met someone from the other team, we played Rock, Paper, Scissors -- the winner carried on and the loser went back to the line. The first person to reach the other team's base scored a point. Our second activity was Cross the River. We had to jump through hoops to get across, collect a piece of treasure, and then make it back safely. The team with the most treasure at the end won! It was a really active and exciting lesson full of teamwork and fun!
In our D&T lesson this week, we looked carefully at our puppet plans and talked about how we are going to secure our puppets together using glue. Once we had glued the main parts, we spent time drawing and cutting out all the little details to stick onto our puppets later on. Everyone worked so hard and stayed focused, making sure their designs matched their plans. It was beautiful to see everyone helping each other and sharing ideas. Brilliant work, team!
Wow, Year 1 -- you blew my socks off today in worship! Everyone spoke clearly and confidently with their lines, and your singing was absolutely beautiful. You remembered all the actions too, and performed them with such enthusiasm. You should all be so proud of how hard you worked to make it such a special performance. What a fantastic team effort!
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
