Happy Friday Team!

In our English we have been using our imagination to become a lost toy in the attic. We have reread Tin Dog letter about being stuck in the attic to help us think of our own ideas. We have planned and written three paragraphs. The first paragraph introduced why we were writing the letter, paragraph two we talked about how we felt and paragraph three we wrote what the other toys could do to help us. Everyone has worked really hard on challenging themselves in their writing. I have loved reading all your ideas.

Math we have been looking at addition within 10. We have been using lots of different resources to help us answer number problems. We have looked at how we can work out what the missing numbers are of number sentences. We really worked hard on using a number line and counting forward, knowing the jumps we made were what we needed to add to make the total. We did our end of unit check and then started looking at subtraction. We looked at starting with an amount and removing some and working out how many we had left.

In Science we were using all the knowledge on materials to sort them into groups. We talked about sorting objects into the materials they were made from, sometimes an object would be in more than one. We then worked together to sort objects into properties. The properties we looked at was opaque and transparent. We discussed the meaning of these properties and then sorted pictures of objects into the groups.

We talked all about rules in Computing. We started the lesson by talking about our school rules and why we have them. We looked at four reasons for having rules, keeping safe, allowing us to learn, making sure we are happy and making sure we are kind to others. We talked about how our school rules fitted into these four reasons. We then discussed the rules we must follow when we are using technology such as laptops. We filled in the gaps on a poster on the rules we follow when we use technology in schools. We talked about how these rules fit into the four reasons, discussing whether they fit into more than one reason.

In our wellbeing we have talked about our favourite items. We loved listening to what each others favourite items were. Everyone loves the time we get to fill in our well-being books.

We have carried on looking at similarities and differences of toys. We looked at a toy from the past and a toy from the present. We listed things that were similar and things that were different. We used our science knowledge to identify the materials of the toys.

We have started thinking about a new big question in our RE lessons, "How is the place where Jesus lived different from where we live now?" There were a pile of clothes on the carpet. Some of the children put the clothes on, we all said the clothes were very old and not from shops today. As a class we talked about how the colours were different to ours. We spent some time asking questions about what we think Jesus would have, we said he wouldn't have pizza and chips, he wouldn't go to the cinema and he did not have a mobile phone.

In this weeks PE lesson, we have worked on all of the skills we have been focussing on this half term. We had a circuit of different games that included, throwing, catching, bouncing, jumping and hopping and we worked in different teams around the circuit to count the number of jumps and bounces and everything else.

In music this week, we had to listen to rhythms very carefully so we could repeat them back by clapping. We found the rhythms became faster as we moved through the levels. We then worked as a group, deciding which answer we felt was correct for our quiz questions. Some questions were quiet difficult. We did however help one another to workout the best answers. This was our first music quiz of year 1 and we really enjoyed it.

They were given some independence when at the different stages and were challenged to work out problems by talking to each other and making sure everyone had their turn.

We have done some choosing in the garden this week and we had a special treat of going on the adventure playground.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend! See you all next week!
