Happy Friday Team!

Wow what a busy week we have had. We had a lovely day out in Nantwich. We went to Nantwich museum and learnt all about Old Toys. We got to look at a really old teddy bear, and we noticed it was a lot harder than the teddies we have now. He actually had wood inside of him! We listened to a story and found out where the name Teddy Bear comes from. We all had to help find some cheeky toys that had hidden themselves inside the museum, once we found them we had to answer some questions about where they were found. Then we walked through Nantwich to the Library where we met the librarian. The librarian told us all about the types of books it had, then we all had a chance to look at the books. We all chose one book to take home to read, we had to use the machine to check out books out.

On Monday morning we had a very exciting parcel that Mrs Chesters had found in the post pile. When Miss opened the parcel lots of purple magic fell to the floor. Inside was a spell book, a witch hat, some blonde hair and a leaf. We spend some time talking about where it had come from and who it all belonged to. We then predicted what the story was going to be about. We had some really good ideas. After our predictions we found out the story we are reading is Rapunzel, we read a little bit of the book. We will be writing our own versions of the story so Miss Willis' read a WAGOLL (what a good one looks like) example text and then we answered questions about the text. Finding adjectives and other bits of information.

In Math we have carried on looking at subtraction. We used a number line to jump backwards to answer subtraction number sentences. We looked at adding and subtracting 1 or 2. We spent lots of time reminding ourselves what the symbols meant. We had to read the questions carefully and decided if we had to count forwards or backwards. Then we looked at word problems for both subtraction ad addition. We had to listen really carefully to figure out if the question was an addition or a subtraction.

Our RE is all about comparing Jesus' life to ours now. We were looking at food and talking about how it is different to what we eat. We draw pictures of the foods we think Jesus eats, there was lots of fish and bread. We have also been preparing for our class worship next week. We have made a whole class rainbow. We all had to work in teams choosing items that make us feel the colours of the rainbow. We have done a blocking run through and are excited to perform to all our adults next week.

We have all completed a fitness challenge this week. We have been challenged to complete as many reps of different exercises as we can in 60 seconds whilst recording our own results so we can see how our fitness improves over the year. This will be repeated in spring term and finally in the summer term and we can compare their results. We were responsible for counting and recording our own reps so it is a personal challenge and everyone is on their own journey to improve our fitness.

In music this week, we practised our class worship song and the accompanying Makaton actions. We are getting so good at this now. We then followed onscreen instructions on a 'Bring the Noise' website. We focused on the listen and layer section. We listened to the music to see how it changed when we took an instrument away, and then added it back again. The first song was about a robot and sounded very spiky. The second song was about ghostly ghouls. This sounded very soft and creepy and we had to listen really careful as the change in sounds were not obvious.

We had our first Geography lesson this week. Our big question is: How do we read maps and plan routes? We discussed what we already knew, we found that a route is showing how to get from one place to another and we knew about the map of the UK and the map of the world. We listed places round our school we liked to play, year 1 garden, adventure playground and many more. Then we looked a photo, it was a very funny looking photo. Miss Willis explained it was an aerial photograph and this is actually a photo of the school grounds. We found out that an aerial photo is taken from above. We spent some time looking at our school grounds, circling the places we like to play.

We started a new D&T topic. We were looking at foods. We had to describe features of the foods on the screen. Then we played a game of guess who but guess the fruit or vegetable. Miss Willis gave us three facts about the fruit or vegetable and we had to guess what she was talking about. We all listened hard and thought carefully about our guesses. We discovered fruits are grown from seeds and have seeds on them and that's how we know a fruit is a fruit. In our tables we sorted pictures into fruits and non-fruits, thinking about whether we could see seeds. The avocado was tricky one because it is such a BIG seed.

We also had a visit from PC Nick who told all about the police. WE learnt about the different jobs they do and then we looked at the different ways they transport and their uniforms. WE had some really good questions.

I hope everyone has a lovely restful weekend!

Miss Wills
