Today we were joined by Bart Gee for an afternoon of exploring how he has turned his disability into possibilty. Bart explained to us that he was born with Arthrogryposis (weak muscles and stiff joints) – doctors told him he would never walk, may never sit up independently and he was given a very bleak outlook to life. He showed us how he had defied this, how he worked hard to perservere in every area of his life, determining that although things may be incredibly hard to achieve, they are still possible, he can do all the things he wants to but adaptation and perservance is key. We found out about how he does daily jobs and how he has adapted tasks such as driving a car, riding a bike so they were achievable with his disability. Bart played the piano for us; a very special moment was when the whole school joined together in singing The Blessing as Bart accompanied us. Bart lead workshops with our children to show them how difficult things that we take for granted are hard for him to complete, like how he learnt to write or how he is able to independently stand up if he has fallen over. The children had a try at these activities too.
His message was DIFFICULT = POSSIBLE; never give up on your hopes and dreams, adapt and perservere.
We had an inspirational afternoon – thank you Bart for visiting Wybunbury Delves.
