And December is here!! Christmas has come to the year 3 classroom with a nativity set, a mini tree, an advent calendar and lots of fairy lights to get us in the Christmas spirit!

In English this week we listened to different versions of the nativity story and then retold our own, focusing on ordering the story and using different sentence openers. We also had the opportunity to put into practise the speech marks for speech we had been learning last week. We had lots of "No room here!" the innkeeper insisted and "don't worry Mary, I will find us a comfy place to stay" explained Joseph in a caring voice. This week has also been the week where we have seen huge changes in our handwriting as all your hard work and dedication is paying off. You all loved having comparing your work from September to now and seeing much progress you've made as we started new English books.

In maths this week we have solved lots of maths problems that were written in word form rather than number form. At first this looked tricky but as we worked out it was only the same as number problems we got quicker and quicker at choosing the correct method. We also finished off our addition and subtraction unit and finished the week with a fun Friday times table Christmas activity and even managed some battles on TT Rock stars with two more children becoming Rock Legends. Amazing work Year 3!

In reading time, you have continued to read aloud to an adult and work on your fluency. This is one of my favourite parts of the week and I love to hear how you are improving as the weeks go by. You all have a new comprehension question set in your blue book too.

In our mindfulness time this week, we had a chance to think about the trees within our school community and what they bring to us. We took part in a 'tree dressing' activity by decorating cones and adding wool to hang them from our trees. We went outside to hang them and shouted a big 'thank you' to all of our surrounding nature. What a lovely moment. We then hung our baubles you have made at home in the orchard. Thank you for taking part in this activity, the orchard looks a really special place and you have asked to go and look at the baubles many times throughout the week.

We have filled our afternoons with lots of learning too! We continued to learn about David Hockney and wrote a fact file ready for study work. We finished off our masterpieces recreating one of his famous paintings in a swimming pool. N computing we continued to use the stop motion app to create our own mini films. We built upon last week's learning by remembering to find a sturdy place for the iPad to stay to ensure the characters moved smoothly on each picture. This week, you chose two props and two characters and created some fantastic films. We enjoyed watching them all at the end of the lesson. Who was in your stop motion animation and what did you get them to do? This was another example of great partner work in Year 3, showing fantastic communication between you and your partner. Well done.

We finished our week with some TT time, and prayer of the week shared by Megan this week.

I am already looking forward to next week's learning with you all! I hope you have had a lovely weekend.
Miss McCurrie
