Thank you to Year 3 for working so hard this week. Our week has consisted of computing, RE, science, music, PHSE and history, along with English, reading and maths. Let's see what we have been up to this week.

In maths this week we have continued our unit on multiplication and division, mainly looking at how we can use facts we know to work out related multiplication and division. We found this made some new calculations much easier. We also focused on the 4 times tables and recapped column addition as our starter tasks.

Our English lessons saw us learning about Julius Caesar and what happened to him in the Roman times. We have worked on work banking, where we find different, more exciting words for well known words. We used thesauruses independently and I was really impressed with how we uplevelled our word choices. We have been learning about Bouddica too and we will put all of our skills into our Bouddica writing this week.

In Science, we continued our unit on humans and animals by looking at healthy eating and balanced diets. We worked in groups to classify foods into their categories: carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables, proteins, dairy and sugars and fats. We cut out pictures of food and put them into correct place on our plate. We then looked at how many portions of each food category we should be eating and then created a pictogram to show the results. Mr Dale was also impressed with our writing our the space balloon from last week so w wrote our recounts up into neat to be added to the science display in the main corridor. I can't wait to see our writing on the wall!

In PHSE we have looked at the difference between forgiveness and getting even and how our reactions in situations can make us feel.

In History we became detectives to explore the origins of the Roman Empire. We decided that currently we have a government who works with the Queen. In ancient Rome there was once a kingdom, a senate and finally emperor's who ruled over the whole of the empire. We read fact sheets, used images and researched on the internet. We were surprised to find out that the first King of Rome and the last Emperor shared the same name – Romulus. Fantastic detective work Year 3.

This week's RE lesson we looked at the big question 'Why do Christians believe Jesus rescued people?'. We read the Bible story about Zacchaeus and looked at a few different versions. You remembered this story from Year 1 – well done! You ordered and retold the story, focusing on the message of the story. 'Zacchaeus was given a chance by Jesus because Jesus saw that he needed help and to be rescued.' said Oliver.

You'll never believe what we got up to in our computing lesson this week...we started to make our own website pages! We looked at some of our favourite websites, like Beast Quest, the Worst Witch and CBBC and investigated the features of a good website and then created our own banners, titles and added photos to our class page websites!

I hope you've had a lovely weekend and I am looking forward to another great week together next week.

Miss McCurrie
