Year 2 news

This week we enjoyed our theme day where we welcomed lots of astronauts, aliens, solar systems and stars! We started our day with getting out the green screen and got into groups to do some drama! We planned our mini scenes and then filmed ourselves on the moon! Watch this space for the YouTube video to be uploaded this week! In the afternoon you used the iPads to have your coding lesson and in PE you played space games. It looked so much fun! Your snacks were amazing and we enjoyed sharing them with the class. Thank you so much for such a great effort with your costumes and snacks. We had a fantastic day!

Our mindfulness activity this Monday was joke telling to make us all laugh. We had some very good jokes which made us all laugh. Which was your favourite?

In maths, we have moved to the abstract concept of multiplication, moving away from practical resources and this week have used drawings to 'prove' our answers. We have focused on 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s. I was very impressed with how you applied your knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s to formal multiplication.

In English this week we have had a spag focus. We have learnt about apostrophes for contraction and have applied these to our own sentences. We have recapped letter names and formation of upper case letters.

In our science lessons, we have started our unit on living things. We learnt about living and dead things and sorted these into groups. We used hoops to create a Venn diagram and had a think 'what makes things alive?'.
