Y4 Weekly News: Merry Christmas!
And there we go! We have completed the world's craziest year — 2020. Y4, you have been truly amazing in such a strange time! You smashed it out of the park during lockdown and have continued to do so in a Year 4 too! I'm proud to be your teacher and hope you all have a very merry Christmas! Now onto the news...
It was time to finish our final unit off during our writing this week. We used all the skills from our previous two stages and ensured that our beware stories were fantastic! The children wrote about tsunamis, rock climbing and even space, as their characters ignored lots of warnings! It was fantastic to see everyone using apostrophes for possession, pronouns and building suspense through varying sentence length!
It was an exciting time to be a Y4 reader, as we've had 50 NEW books! We spent the week reading them and thinking about which ones we would like to take home after Christmas!
During D&T this week, we finished designing and sewing our mountaineering badges. On Monday, we designed and evaluated 3 different badges and thought about which stitch would work best. On Wednesday, we spent the morning using the backstitch method to sew some amazing mountaineering designs! On Friday, we evaluated these!
In P.E, we finished our unit on health related fitness. We worked with Miss McMillan to warm up and then played lots.of games which focused upon our strength and speed! Well done!
During our final coding session before Christmas, we completed level 3 of code studio. We had to use our debugging skills to ensure that all of our algorithms were correct and that our programmes would work. Before all this, we'd taken part in an unplugged activity all about algorithms and coding language. We gave each other instructions on how to draw different monsters from various code language.
It was all hands on deck this week as we got busy with our study work. We built 3d volcanoes, designed our music page and ensured our books are looking amazing!
During spellings, we recapped all the patterns we have learnt so far! With this, we created amazing spelling games and played against one another to test our spelling knowledge.
It was also very Christmassy during our last week. It was fantastic to have everybody in the classroom to share a Christmas dinner and pull crackers. Whilst on Thursday we watched the pantomime and had our Christmas party too! Dancing games, guessing games and lots of laughs were had!
Have a fantastic Christmas and a very happy new year!
