Y3 Weekly News: BIG ART!

Back home  /  News  /  Y3 Weekly News: BIG ART!

Welcome back, Y3! What a busy few days we've had...

During Book Club this week, we all managed to do a book change and have fresh 'read aloud' books for 2020! It's been great to see all the reading that's been going on over Christmas! We have already started reading aloud our new books some of us already have questions to answer. Keep it up, Y3!

In Maths this week, during starters, our focus has been upon recapping some methods from last term. Both column subtraction and addition were looked at and it was awesome to see lots of children remembering all the steps and using maths language to explain them too! We also looked at the relationship between multiplication such as 3 x 4 and 3 x 40, quickly realising we can use our TT knowledge to help us! We also compared multiplication statements using greater than, less than and equal to symbols and on Friday we all had a go at some TT questions, what a busy 4 days! Next week we will be starting our spring term Power Maths adventure!

In English this week, we wasted no time in delving straight into the magical world of dragons! We introduced our book, How to Train your Dragon and listed all the things we knew about it. We then decided to write a description about the main dragon from the story, Toothless. We build noun and adjective banks, watched clips, created a shared write and on Thursday, produced some wonderful paired writes full of adjectives, similes and descriptive sentences! On Friday we each researched our own dragon to describe next week, which one did you pick?

Throughout the week we've been super busy with BIG ART. We create mini tiles to represent dragon scales using mixed media including pastels, paint and material. We stuck our pieces together and created a mammoth dragon's eye – check it out! We have also been learning about Viking shields. We learnt about how and why they used them. Can you remember any facts? We painted our own shields and they will soon be hanging up in the classroom – check them out so far!

We started our History topic on Friday and you guessed it – it's all about Vikings! We started by thinking about what we already know, but finished by more importantly thinking about what we wanted to find out. We came up with some really thoughtful questions! Hopefully they can be answered over the course of our topic!

In R.E we thought about our big question this half term – 'What do parables told by Jesus tell us the Kingdom of God is like?'. We started by thinking about our own versions of the Kingdom of God. We drew pictures and wrote down our thoughts. We will continue to investigate this question next week.

Throughout the week we have also had the chance to begin reading our class book. It's already been really funny and we can't wait to read on...

The class page has now been updated with our holistic plan, newsletter and bingo homework.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Mr Dale
