Welcome back to a new half term of PE!
During this half term we will be focussing on movement, fitness and yoga. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us but the lessons can all be easily adapted to the classroom if needed.
Mastering movement skills at younger ages, learning to control our bodies, improve hand-eye coordination and build core strength are important, as is understanding how and where our bodies and minds are affected by exercise.
This week Year 1 practised all types of jumping; 2 feet to 2 feet, 1 foot to 2 feet, side to side, forwards, backwards and adding turns. When the rain came we finished indoors with a Cosmic Kids yoga session.
Year 3 focussed on yoga, firstly working on balances, trying to be still and focus on a spot in front of them, then using yoga flashcards inside.
Year 6 began health related fitness with a 5 minute sustained run, followed by circuits with a focus on leg strength and flexibility with the key question being 'Why is leg strength and flexibility so important in sports?'
Congratulations to supergirl Bella for completing her third personal challenge booklet and congratulations also to Layla for completing her booklet as well. Year 6 are flying with their personal challenges! I wonder which class will be next to complete a booklet?
Well done everyone, another fantastic week!
