Our week – Preschool

Back home  /  News  /  Our week – Preschool

Hello wonderful Preschool!

We have welcomed some of our families back this week and it has been so lovely to see you. You have amazed me at how confidently and happily you have entered each morning and have jumped back into Preschool life – wow! We have made some slight changes to our room and your children have adapted brilliantly; we no longer sit on number squares, we find an x marks the spot, we sanitise our hands as we go out and come in from outdoor play, we eat lunch in our room, we have less resources out and during our tidy up time we put all our toys in bags so they can be sterilised. Despite these changes Preschool rhythms and routines remain the same.

Whether at home or in Preschool you have been very busy and this week our learning has been based around the theme 'The Rainforest'. You have learned lots about the different animals that live in the Rainforest. You have watched clips on the internet, played an animal jungle quiz, used a computer to draw an animal using the paint program, been explorers and much more...

Within your literacy activities you have listened to a variety of stories including the story 'The Tiger who came to Tea' by Judith Kerr. You answered questions about the Tree Frog from the 'Go Jetters' episode and have retold a favourite story. We have been great listeners this week! To support your early writing skills you have drawn and painted a variety of pictures of different animals and drew the tiger from our story. It was lovely to hear your explanations and descriptions of your drawings. You have also grown in confidence in writing your name on the back of your work.

To enhance your phonics skills you have continued with your daily Ruth Miskin sessions, sang nursery rhymes, listened for initial sounds in words and have enjoyed Fred I spy...

To develop your physical skills you have enjoyed a variety of Rainforest activities including yoga, Andy's wildlife workout and created movement to music.

This week your mathematics learning saw you exploring 2D and 3D shape. You have hunted for shapes, drawn around shapes, created a picture made out of shapes, described properties of shape, played a shape game on the computer and sang songs about shapes. What shape experts you are now.

We have also had lots of fun in Preschool playing with our friends – what a great week we have had!

See you all again next week,
Tara
