School's out for Christmas! Wow can you believe we have been together for one whole term. This has been the best few months watching you grow with confidence and seeing all of your achievements. You are all superstars and you all make me super proud.
In English, this week we finished our non-fictions books. These are amazing pieces of writing and I just know how proud you all are of them. We looked at each page individually and shared our ideas of what information and facts we could write to our readers. Our books even have contents, index and glossary pages and also some labelling of hot air balloons. I think we have all finished this term as hot air balloon experts.
In D&T we finished our buses by putting our wheels and axles onto them so we could make our buses move. You all thought about the length of your axle, the size of your wheel s and what is better to make your bus go faster along the floor. When we had finished making our buses we evaluated them. To help us do this we had a class discussion of what we like best about each other's work and what we could do to make it even better. Your ideas were great! This helped you to do your own evaluation of your bus where you thought about how safe you worked, if your vehicle looks like a bus, if you followed your design and what you could do to improve it. These buses were brilliant and you have worked super hard on your first D&T project.
On Tuesday and Wednesday you got to show your nativity to your families. You all had fantastic acting, wonderful singing and clear but loud voices. Huge thank you to your families for helping you learn your lines and being your audience.
Today was our Christmas party and what fun we had. We joined reception in the hall for a Christmas disco where we played all of your favourite songs. We then went back to class where we played pass the parcel, had a Christmas quiz and then played Christmas bingo. In the afternoon we made our calendars to take home and we all settled down to watch frozen.
Year 1 this term has been fantastic! I have loved being your teacher and I am already excited about everything that is going to happen next term. Today we had some time to reflect on our time in year 1 your comments were so lovely. These are just some of the comments 'I am proud of myself because I can add numbers together.' 'I am proud of myself because I can now write stories and sentences.' 'I am proud of myself because I can write non-fiction books about transport.' 'I am proud of myself because I try really hard in phonics and now I can read storybooks.' Well year 1 you make me proud every single day! You are so determined to learn and to achieve great things.
A huge thank you from Mrs Van-Russelt and I for all of your kind and generous gifts. We have been very spoilt and feel very lucky. Thank you for all of your endless support we really couldn't do it without you all.
Now children all I have left to say is MERRY CHRISTMAS and have a well-deserved rest with your family. You deserve it!
Have a wonderful Christmas and see you in 2020!
Miss Haynes and Mrs Van-Russelt
