And half term is upon us! Where does the time go? You have worked hard and applied all your energy to my tasks
and what fantastic results you have achieved. I am so proud of you all.

This week in Maths we competed our addition and subtraction unit using an AI programme called Magma Maths. We then went on to focus our learning on factors and multiples as we began our new unit – multiplication and division. We came up with class definitions of each term and used these to identify them within numbers. We played a multiples and factors Nrich game which we all loved to finish our week off. Brilliant job.

Our English this week has all been about publishing our speeches in our author books. This is the first Year 6 piece to enter our books. We all took our time to focus on our handwriting and all the edits we had made during our draft phase. We will move on to a new book with new outcomes after half term. A brilliant half term of focus and determination. You are all stars.

We have completed our WW2 information texts in book club and we have now moved on to learning all about Anne Frank and her diary entries. We will continue to learn more about her early life after half term.

We welcomed a Magistrate into Year 6 this week. Paula is a working Magistrate and she gave us a great insight into her day and helped us to understand her points. We are hoping to run a mock trial with her later in our year.

We also discussed the safety points around bonfires and fireworks using PC Nick’s information.

In Year 6 this week, we celebrated Black History Month by being introduced to Jesse Owens. Jesse Owens was from Alabama and was one of 10 siblings. He rose to fame as an impressive athlete but was judged because of his colour. Jesse Owens went on to challenge racism on the world stage at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and made new records to the annoyance of Adolf Hitler. He showed great courage in standing up for equality and proved that determination and talent can break barriers. As a tribute to Jesse, we created medals showcasing our new knowledge and deep respect for his achievements. His story inspired us to create our own artwork to celebrate his achievements.

We have enjoyed two PE lessons again this week.

We have enjoyed many other afternoon subjects this week. We have critiqued our waistcoats, and we have completed our history assessment using a comic strip. In PSHE, we have been reflecting on the idea of commitment. We began by asking, can we describe what a commitment is? This led to thoughtful discussions, including looking at marriage as a commitment between two people. We also explored how we can show commitment in everyday actions—being kind, showing up for others, and working together with care. To guide our lesson, we shared the verse: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1

We then took time to reflect on our PSHE lessons this term, thinking carefully about the things we’ve learned that help protect our own hearts and the hearts of others. This linked beautifully to another Bible verse: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23

We have completed our RE unit on What Jerusalem means to a Christian and we have come to the end of our French unit too. We’ve enjoyed discovering more about the world and animals, and have used this knowledge to practise reading, writing, and
speaking in French. We continued to think about great leaders in our second AYLA activity which was called the walk of trust. We have shared our computing PowerPoints and given each other ways to improve them. We ended our week with our usual treat – time spent with our buddies. We enjoyed time together on our daily mile track. Have a lovely half term Reception. Your very first half term in school completed. We are very proud of you.

I have received many different bingo board activities this half term. We take time each Friday afternoon to share them and we will continue to do so. There is still plenty of time over our next half term to add to our display.

I have chatted to my children today to let them know that there will be no new homework set for Year 6 over half term. However, I would like anyone who has outstanding tasks to complete them please. I would like to thank you for supporting your children during this term in completing all weekly homework. A well-earned break is deserved.

Year 6, what a super term we have all had. You have settled into Year 6 and have worked extremely hard. What a team we are. Have a wonderful half term, stay safe and enjoy your family time.

Your teacher,
Mrs B.
