What a fantastic week of PE. We've been lucky with the weather although there is definitely more of a chill in the air!
This week we have all focussed on hand/eye skills challenges.
In year 1 we worked as a class watching then following each demonstration.
Year 2 worked in pairs to interpret the instructions given and find out if we all did the same exercise at each station.
Year 6 stepped it up, as part of their leadership unit, and had to read the instructions, practise and then 'teach' and help their partner to complete the exercises.
We all found some exercises easier than others, rolling the ball in circles and figures of eight around our feet with one hand, whilst others were more difficult. Using both hands to throw and catch two balls at the same time and throwing the ball with one hand in front of our legs and one hand behind, then swapping them quickly and catching the ball were really tricky challenges!
We all persevered with the harder challenges and there were lots of superstar stickers and reward cards earned this week! Well done everyone!
Just a quick reminder about PE kits. As the weather turns colder, and wetter, it's important to make sure that we are suitably dressed for PE. Black joggers or leggings (shorts in warmer weather), PE t-shirt or house/white t-shirt, black school hoody or plain black hoody, good supportive trainers, lightweight waterproof coat, plain dark underlayers for the colder weather. We will be outside in nearly all weathers! Please can all earrings be removed or taped up on PE day, they can cause a nasty injury if the get knocked or caught!
This week children in years 1-6 will have brought home a personal challenge log. This is for any physical activity your child does, outside school, to be logged, just like a reading record. Government guidelines suggest that children should be physically active for at least 60 minutes every day (30 minutes in school and 30 minutes at home). If your child does 10 minutes of moderate activity then pop it into their log book. This includes any clubs that they attend outside of school e.g. swimming, football, gymnastics etc. Any active hobbies e.g. horse riding, cycling, walking and activities like playing in the park and football in the garden. There are certificates, housepoints etc. for completed logs. Happy logging!
Have a wonderful weekend!
