Preschool news 03.03.23

World Book Day

This week in preschool we have started our dinosaur theme, the children have sung the rhyme 10 little dinosaurs, listened to the story of 10 little dinosaurs, and have been using watercolour paints to make pictures of a dinosaur. They have also enjoyed making dinosaur footprints in sugar snow and mud.
We have also started looking at some interesting dinosaur facts, such as where they lived, when they lived and what they ate.

On Wednesday we celebrated St. Davids day. We listened to the story of St. David and made observational paintings of some lovely daffodils.

We have also been practicing singing and signing The Gruffalo song this week and on Thursday we joined the whole school in the hall for a sing along to celebrate world book day.
The children dressed up as their favourite story book characters and looked amazing!

In literacy this week we have worked together to write our own oral story. Some of the children then told their own stories which we then acted out at helicopter story time. We have started looking at alliteration, with the children looking for items which begin with the same sounds. This week we have looked at the sound 'm' and words such as 'monkey' 'moon' and 'Monday'.

In maths we have started to learn how to make marks to represent numbers, by writing numerals and making tally marks.

In our Heartsmart session we payed a game where the children had to tell us where they liked to play and who they liked to play with, showing that we all like playing at different things with our friends.

Next week we will be carying on with our dinosaur theme, learning the story of the Little Green Dinosaur.
