Welcome back to you all and I hope you have had a fabulous half term. You have settled back into a busy week and you have all worked so hard. I am proud of you.

In Maths this week we have completed our metric and imperial measures unit with a review and begun to investigate area, perimeter and volume. To begin our new unit, we discussed key and unknown vocabulary. We used squares and rectangles to think about area and perimeter and thought about a formula to tackle reasoning questions. We have also completed an arithmetic paper which was against the clock and we have spent time on TT Rock Stars. We are also playing Topmarks – daily 10 which we love.

In English this week we began a new Talk 4 Writing unit. Our new unit is on biographies, and we started by completing a cold write. We have begun to learn my model text using pictures and actions and which we have recited as a team. We have used the model text to identify sentence signposts and discussed unfamiliar words. We have completed short burst writes all about a mouse in a red hat. We will continue with this unit next week.

In Book Club this week we continued to use our Steps to Read lessons to construct answers to our anchor questions. We have thought about those three marks questions and how to achieve them. We have discussed new vocabulary and used the context of the text to find their meanings. We have also enjoyed our class book and the journey Torak is taking without his Fa.

In History this week we revisited our Skara Brae quizzes to end our journey through the Stone Age. We are now moving into the Bronze Age and have begun our learning by visiting Dartmoor. We have watched a short video understanding the finds of a cist. We will continue with this next week.

In Computing this week, we thought about our perfect day. What would you do on this day? What would you eat? Where would you go? All these questions were part of our e-safety lesson. We will continue with this lesson next week by asking if we are staying healthy online.

We began our new science unit this week on the Circulatory System. I have moved this unit from our summer term to coincide with our High Impact dissection lesson which is coming up. We began by focusing on blood components. Using different ingredients to hook our learning on to, we made a blood smoothie. Four boys took on the smoothie challenge as the rest of us watched their expressions. We then thought about these components in a different way by looking at magnified images to answer quiz questions. We will continue with this unit next week.

We have begun a new Geography unit this week. Our big question is focused on protecting our planet. Sir Richard Attenborough delivered some thought provoking questions as we watched one of his videos sharing why our planet needs our help. We will continue with our learning next week.

Our first music lesson of this half term saw us creating our own composition section to a piece of music entitled – 'March of the Golden Guards.' Notes C, D and E are used in this piece, meaning our composition needed to be these notes also. If we felt confident, we could draw the notes on the staves, if not, we could write the note letters. The time signature was 4/4, so our focus needed to compliment the piece itself and include notation and rests evident to the note duration

Having previously looked at cities in France; it was now time for us to think about where we live. We learnt how to ask someone where they live, as well as possible reply options.

We have completed our Salvation RE assessment this week and we are now ready to show them off to Mrs Ward.

During our My Happy Mind lesson this week we focused on relationships. We thought about how we can have good relationships with other people. We went on to think about our strengths and who has similar strengths to us. We will continue with this next week.

Our PSHE lesson asked us to think about giving. We watched a short video to support our learning. We know that being Heartsmart means knowing that just as we are important, other people are important too. We thought about Mark verses 12:31 – Love your neighbour as yourself.

We have taken part in PE this week with both Mrs Jenkins and Sportscape.

We have enjoyed buddy time this week as we travelled around the daily mile track. This was a real treat. We also welcomed Year 3 into our classroom this week as they shared their writing with us. We were very impressed by their handwriting and their spellings. Well done Year 3.

We have also dressed for World Book Day and performed our Makaton song together with the rest of school. Competitions have been entered and book quizzes completed. Great fun.

This week we have chatted together about our upcoming residential to Edale. We chose our meal options and thought about who we would like in our dormitories. There are two boy and two girl dormitories, so we know that we will be sharing with other friendship groups too.

Year 6, what a super week you have all had. I am so proud of you. You have settled back into my classroom quickly and you have worked extremely hard. I hope you have had a wonderful weekend.

Your teacher,
Mrs. B.
