I cannot believe how much we have got through this week in Year 6. You have worked so hard and your dedication to my tasks is impressive. Well done to you all.
This week in Maths we have begun by using our fluency skills to solve different calculations. We have discussed our strategies and shared our methods. In our Power Maths lessons we continued to investigate place value. We have used number lines to place numbers up to 10,000,000 correctly on it. We have compared numbers and used the inequality sign to show our knowledge. We ended our week battling each other on TT Rock Stars. Great job Year 6.
In English this week we have worked hard to create different sentences of accuracy. Our focus has been on formal and informal language and punctuating speech. We have written short descriptive pieces and thought about the feelings of our main character as she sees her town invaded by German soldiers. Editing has also been a focus in class this week. Keep it up Year 6. I am impressed.
During Book Club this week we have focused on a DK history book. We have used pages from this book to learn new vocabulary and facts, and to understand the layout of non-fiction text. We have also spent time enjoying our new class text – Goodnight Mr. Tom.
In History this week we continued to think about why WW2 began. We watched a short video time lining the events leading up to WW2. Our next lesson will introduce us to the term invasion. Super job.
We continued our new Science unit this week – Electricity. We enjoyed recapping our Year 4 learning by creating simple and series circuits and problem solving on how to make the simple circuit increase the brightness of a bulb.
We began our new computing lesson by thinking about internet addresses. We explored what is necessary for effective communication and the importance of agreed protocols. We applied our understanding to IP addresses and the rules (protocols) that computers have for communicating with one another. We also learnt about Domain Name Servers (DNS) and how to translate web addresses into IP addresses.
Our RE lesson challenged us to create a 'map' of our own life journey so far. We included key events, places, and people and any religious ceremonies or rites of passage (birth rites, coming of age ceremonies, weddings, funerals) in these journeys. We then considered what you need on your journey of life?
We continued to look at our new art unit this week; making 2d art into 3d sculptures. We are focusing on an artist called Labaina Himid who creates large sculptures using black culture. Today we were introduced to a piece of her artwork and learnt a little about her journey before creating our own art design to share her story.
We have also taken part in PSHE considering what makes us special. We watched instruments being made from recyclable materials and thought about what they symbolise. We have also enjoyed our first Wellbeing session thinking about what we love.
PE with both Kick and Mrs Whittingham have taken place this week. With Mrs Whittiingham Year 6 continued with her football unit and in Kick Year 6 played basketball until rain stopped play!
In our music lesson this week we recapped notes B, A and G on the recorders. We will continue to build on our skills from last year with an aim in increasing our confidence, improve our accuracy anf of course have fun.
We have also enjoyed a French lesson where we began a new unit – Where in the World.
We have been introduced to our new Courageous Advocacy project which is The Archbishop's Young Leader's Award. Today we met Archie a character who will take us on this journey. We thought about what makes a good leader and how we can aim to be leaders ourselves. We will continue with our project next week.
We loved spending time with our buddies today and we will join them next week at St Chads church to welcome them into our Wybunbury family as we lead their New Starters service.
Well, what a busy and productive week we have had. Have a wonderful weekend Year 6, you deserve it.
Your teacher.
