Year 6 News of Week 26.1.24

Back home  /  Our Classes  /  Year 6  /  Year 6 News of Week 26.1.24

This week has flown by, and we have packed so much into it. You have worked hard in many different areas of your learning, and I am so proud of you all.

We began our week in Maths by tackling different problems using ratio and proportion. We have used different scenarios to compare amounts. We then went on to think about shape and enlargements. We used the Geoboards to investigate and deepen our knowledge. We have tackled an arithmetic paper and played TT Rock Stars too. New ratio homework has been set. Amazing Year 6.

Our main objective of our English lessons this week has been planning and writing our Darwin discovery narrative. We have used doodles and subject specific words to enhance our ideas and think about formal language. One more paragraph to go before we edit and move on.

Our book club sessions this week were dedicated to Steps to Read. We have summarised different paragraphs of Darwin's journey and answered anchor questions with confidence.

We have enjoyed our class story each day which has enabled us to think about our Forest Schools sessions too.

Our big art is well underway as we have now begun to create our cave walls. We will continue with our pieces next week.

In RE this week, we have thought about the term Eucharist. We have answered the question, what are the important parts of the Holy Communion and presented our facts in our own chosen way? I am busy organising a visit to St Chads to meet with Rev. Alison and see the Eucharist parts of her service.

We enjoyed using our glockenspiels this week in music. "Our wanna play in a band" piece of music is coming along. This week our focus was the next two pieces of music. We practised this and then played pages 1-4 in succession. We also reflected on each page and whether we felt confident. Year 6, Miss Holland has commented on what a great music lesson you had.

We enjoyed our next Inheritance lesson in Science this week as we used dog DNA (also known as paper strips) to create a new breed. We then went on to decide where its features came from and split them between its parents. Our final task was to draw our new breed and to give it a name.

We have used two variables in computing this week to programme a scoreboard using Scratch. We added voice and backgrounds to our games.

We have taken part our Kick PE lesson, which we all enjoyed.

We have enjoyed our forest schools lesson this week with Mr Hadfield. We began by reading a Stone Age story and finding different tools we thought we might like to make. We then went on to work with clay to re-create all sorts of tools and weapons. We ended our session by making a small fire to roast marshmallows.

We have enjoyed Well-being this week and worked in our own journals.

What a busy week you have had, and I am super proud of all that you have achieved. You have worked so hard. Well done Year 6.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Your teacher,
Mrs. B.
