Another very busy week with everyone working hard and trying their best. What more could I ask for? You are all super stars.

We began our week in our maths lessons recapping common factors and common multiples as this area is needed to work with fractions. Our new unit began with simplifying fractions and then we moved on to placing fractions on a number line. We have also covered finding equivalent fractions and we have used this knowledge to compare and order fractions. We will move on to adding and subtracting fractions next week. We have enjoyed time on TT Rock stars and our homework consolidate our learning.

We are working our way through our warning story T4W unit. We have created our toolkit and boxed up my model text. We have also worked with semi colons and written sentences of three to describe a setting. We have recapped prepositions and used these as fronted adverbials.

We have thoughts about how WW2 Britain prepared for the worst in our book club lessons and used different information pages to find our answers. We have also prepared different definitions of subject specific words. We have also enjoyed our class story.

This week our My Happy Minds lesson introduced us to our strengths and how to recognise them.

We have covered many areas of learning during our afternoons. We began our DT unit by reviewing our knowledge on poppies. We discussed the poem Flanders Fields and read it as a chorus. We will now design a poppy of our own and think about its properties before we begin making one.

We have enjoyed two computing lessons – one on our project and our second discussing e-safety. We talked about different online platforms Year 6 enjoy and then focused on Snapchat. We considered its positives, of which there were many, and also the negatives.

We began a new RE unit this week on Salvation. We thought about the different ways we know a Christian sees God and how this is represented in the Christmas story. We enjoyed looking at two pieces of artwork to support our learning.

Our science lesson continued to focus on electricity as we used different challenge cards to recap our Year 4 learning. Using the components of a circuit, we built different versions and investigated their brightness.

We continued to look at the features of the UK in geography this week. We used our atlases and iPads to find the longest rivers, the highest points and the largest bodies of water in Great Britain. We labelled our maps and came up with our own questions to answer

We have enjoyed music and two PE lessons this week.

We ended our week with a French lesson and time spent with our buddies. We have also found time to share more wonderful creations from our bingo board homework. Just amazing.

Thank you to all my Year 6 children who offered their time to show around future families. You were so passionate about our school and shared your knowledge brilliantly. I know how proud Mrs Chesters is and of course it goes without saying how proud I am too.

I hope you are having a lovely weekend.

Your teacher.

Mrs B.
