Can you believe it? Another term has come and gone. It has been amazing to think about the amount of curriculum we have covered, including all the extra-curricular events too. You have built up your resilience over the weeks and you are certainly working at a steady pace. Well done Year 6. I am enormously proud of you all.

In Maths this week we have continued to work our way through our algebra unit. We have used formula, equations, function machines and number balances to work out the value of an unknown amount. We are now becoming more confident with the process and bar models have helped with our understanding.

In English this week we have analysed our example text and thought about different writing devices. We have considered the formality and tone and how the writer has created this and we have put this into our own writing.

We have begun to think about the sh sound in spellings this week. We looked at the ti and ci sounds and how they make the sh sound in different words. We know to look at the root words to help us to decide which sh sound to use.

In Book Club this week we ensured all children have read with an adult and have changed reading books ready for our half term break. Although I haven't set any new homework for this half term, it would be great to continue with reading.

We have completed our RE spring focus this week with a reflection on our Church visit and added information to our Questful Maps. We have used all our learning to add comments and discuss the Eucharist.

We have completed our computing unit today by creating our own catcher games using Scratch. We have created sprites and included a timer and a scoreboard. We have coded position and drops and included a background too. We shared our games with each other to enjoy.

We have enjoyed our PE lesson with James from Kick focusing on football skills. We thought about how we could support each other and share our skills in a positive way.

In Music this week we learnt all about our next unit – Beat Boxing. We were mesmerised by how articulate beat boxes need to be to create sounds. We thought about our groups and how we can present our initial ideas.

In our PHSE lesson this week we reflected on our unit too much selfie isn't healthy. We discussed how we show love for others and how we used the unselfie challenge to show kindness to others.

We enjoyed our French lesson this week too. We looked at how to choose the correct subject pronoun with the right form of a verb.

During our First Aid week we had a visit from PC Nick and took part in a lesson on choking. We know how to contact the emergency services and how to help a casualty with an airway blockage.

We ended our final Forest Schools session in style this week as we made our own henges. We learnt about Stone Henge and how this was built. We also had a chance to learn about burial mounds and how these were used during the Stone and Bronze Ages. We ended our session by making digestive and marshmallow s'mores. Thank you, Mr Hadfield. We have loved all our sessions.

I haven't set any homework to complete over the half term as I think a well-deserved break has been earned by all. Enjoy the lie ins, and perhaps some time outside, but more importantly enjoy your family time.

Thank you for all your support and I wish you a very happy half term break.

Your teacher,
Mrs. B.
