A busy and productive week in Year 6, from being out and about in the village on our bikes to making deluxe shelters in forest schools. We have even managed to fit in some other subjects too.
In Maths this week, we began a new unit – Geometry. We have recapped our Y5 learning and plotted coordinates in a one quadrant grid and then moved our learning on to using a four-quadrant grid. This grid used negative numbers and challenged our learning. We have read and plotted coordinates, we have reflected shapes and translated them too. We will assess our learning and then move onto a new unit. We practised our times tables using TT Rock Stars and then put our knowledge into action by completing a times table test. We ended our week with an arithmetic paper, which we marked as a team and looked at those questions that were a little trickier.
In English this week we continued to learn our model write on the biography of Paddington Bear. We can now retell three of our five paragraphs and we have used the model to identify different signposts within it. We will continue with this piece next week. We ended our week using different word classes and tried to match them to their correct sentences.
We have all read with an adult this week and have changed our books if needed. Book reviews are underway in Y6 as my children aim to reach their bronze Y6 badges. We have continued with our class story and ended it on a real cliff-hanger.
We continued with our new unit in RE this week. We thought about our big question – how does a belief in the Kingdom of God inspire and influence Christians across the world? We continued with our perfect world discussions and chose our top three pictures. We then went on to consider what images our local church community would choose to be important in their idea of God's perfect world. We will continue with our class learning next week.
In Music this week we began to look at a new piece of music. Miss Holland came to our lesson with the glockenspiels and we enjoyed recapping our Y5 learning. We will continue with this instrument next week.
PE with Mrs Jenkins and Sportscape has taken place this week.
We have enjoyed our second forest schools lesson and used our time to create some amazing shelters. Everyone worked so well as a team. We even managed to add decoration to our shelters!
We have nearly completed our Big Art cave art with some pieces being displayed on our wall. We will add to them to our display and I will be sure to post a picture of our impressive artwork.
We have completed our Bikeability course which saw us venturing into the village on our bikes. We have now all received our certificates and new badges to wear with pride. Well done Y6.
I don't think we could have fitted anything else into our week. I am so impressed with how hard you are all working Year 6 and how focused you are as we move through our learning.
I hope you have enjoyed your weekend and I will see you all tomorrow.
