Another week has flown by and it has been a jam-packed one. We have worked our socks off and I am so proud of you all.

We have continued to work with fractions in maths this week. Multiplying and dividing fractions by whole numbers has been our recap and then we have gone on to use the rules of BODMAS and finding fractions of amounts. We have used different problems to show our determination and I am extremely proud of you all. We now understand the process of these calculations and we will apply our knowledge when completing our arithmetic tests. We have also challenged ourselves to answer as many timetables questions as possible and enjoyed playing TT Rock Stars. We have completed two end of term assessments, an arithmetic and a reasoning paper. Well done. Super work Y6.

We have now completed our own versions of the poem In Flanders fields using our knowledge of the Blitz. We will now enter an inter-school competition and keep our fingers crossed for a winning entry. I think we are all winners.

In book club this week have completed our end of term reading assessments and enjoyed our class story. We have about 60 pages left of our story and each day we leave it on a cliff-hanger. Next week we will find out the ending and what happens to the main characters. We have also completed all Big Cat reading assessments focussing on our learnt reading skills.

We used all our skills learnt over the last few weeks in DT to create our 3d poppies. We used resilience and determination to bring our designs alive. Our products are nearly there, and we will add the finishing touches of beads and buttons next week. We think they may take pride of place on the front covers of our studywork books when finished. You have worked hard Y6. Well done. Your creations are simply brilliant.

We completed our science unit on electricity this week. We recreated a Guinness book of records – record – to produce electricity using lemons and potatoes. Our circuits lit up an LED bulb and we then went on to complete a circuit drawing assessment. Great fun.

Our Alan Turing presentations are nearly ready to be recorded. We have now completed our scripts and thought about our props too. We will present our completed recordings to our class and have time to review them.

We have begun our Christmas service practices this week. Some children have words to learn. Please could you help them to memorise their lines in readiness for Tuesday next week. We are looking forward to sharing it with you. If you are able to walk down to church with us, please let me know. Our service is at St Chads and begins at 9.30am. We will be leaving school around 9am.

In music this week we have enjoyed rehearsing our Christmas carols and beginning a studwork page. We have also enjoyed having a PE treat of three lessons.

We finished our week off with some buddy time which we always enjoy.

We are all up to date with all of our homework. Every piece has been completed and I am impressed. You are stars. I have not set any homework for this week as I think a week of Y6 assessments is more than enough for this term.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Your teacher,
Mrs B.
