We have covered so many areas in our learning this week and I am proud of each and every one of you. Y6 you are flying. Each day you work your way through our morning maths starters and mark them all before 9am, truly amazing!

This week in Maths we have continued to master different methods of division. We have used short division, factors, and the long division method to divide four-digit numbers by two digits. We have persevered and persevered and we are now getting there. We will continue with this area next week.

We have begun a new Talk for Writing unit this week after editing our diary entries. We are becoming spies and thinking about different gadgets that we may need. We will persuade our reader to purchase our gadget by using persuasive language and persuasive devices. My model text is all about a multi-functioning mobile phone and we have begun to learn this piece of writing using my story map. We will continue this unit next week.

During Book Club this week we have discovered more about Anne Frank. We have used different diary entries to understand Anne further. We have thought about her feelings by selecting specific words within her writing. We have worked together to answer our anchor questions and have come up with some brilliant explanations. We have also enjoyed story time during our Book Club sessions and we now know that our main characters have reached Devon and arrived in Budmouth Point to an unwelcoming host.

During our science lesson this week, we continued to make our periscopes. Resilience and perseverance were qualities needed for this lesson and a little bit of problem solving too. We then used our periscopes to act out an attack on the enemy (otherwise known as our house teams). We split into groups and arranged targets to aim at and used ammunition (beanbags) to attack!! We even managed to spy on Y5 and Miss Pennance. Next week, we will think about how light helped us to see the target.

In RE this week, we collected different ideas to use when completing our assessment. We thought about the Bible verses we have used and the descriptions we have made to answer our big question. Our thoughts were based on the three terms used to describe God – Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Omniscient. We will complete our assessment next week and share this with you. I can't wait to see your collage work Y6.

During our Happy Minds lesson this week, we learnt to use a breathing technique to help when our Amygdala part of our brain is in action. We joined together to take some time out to practise this and reflected on how this made us feel in our journals.

We thought about safe and unsafe personal information in computing this week by creating an interactive online poster. We began by brainstorming our ideas and then used Code Studio to begin our posters.

We also used some of our computing time to complete a history task from last week. We answered our class question by looking at different cities around the UK and the impact German bombing had on them.

Our WW2 tunnel books are coming along nicely. We are now ready to use the concertina cards we made this week to add to our frames. We will create the images to make our Blitz display next week.

This week in Music saw us playing – chord F on the ukulele. It was quite tricky, but we helped each other to position our fingers on the right rets and strings. As a challenge we played the first sheet of a piece of music called In the Groove. This meant changing from chord C to chord F. We will continue with this next week.

PE has taken place this week with both Sportscape and Mrs Jenkins

In our French lesson this week we have been introduced to names of places you can find in a town. We thought about different amenities around our own village and then put them into a short French phrase. Il y une ecole!

New homework had been set. During our English lesson my class persuaded me to delay it by a week! Great persuasive work Y6!! We will complete the task next week.

We enjoyed presenting our Harvest Service to you and would just like to thank everyone for joining us at St Chads.

We have also found time to enjoy reading with our buddies and we have presented worship to the rest of school too.

We enjoyed two different items baked this week from rationed products. They were absolutely delicious. We have also shared other bingo creations which are now displayed in our classroom. Martha made a war plane out of Lego and shared her creation with pride before safely flying it home!

Well, how do we fit it all in Y6? This is a good question and I'm sure as you read our weekly website updates you must think this too. Y6 you are simply amazing.

Your teacher,
Mrs B.
