Another busy week in Year 6, from Forest Schools to Interfaith Week, to dressing up for our NSPCC Number Day and everything in between. Well done Year 6, you have smashed it.

We have spent our time this week in maths investigating percentages. From understanding percentages to be out of 100, to finding friendly percentages to support our calculations your knowledge is definitely growing. We will continue with this concept next week. We have all worked hard on our early morning starters and used our fluency skills to tackle arithmetic games. We have had time playing on TT Rock Stars as we entered our national TT Rock Stars battle. We have enjoyed completing different quizzes and challenges and we have even played Who Wants to be a Mathonnaire all in the name of the NSPCC. Our outfits brought our day alive.

We have completed our spelling unit this week on adding suffixes to words ending in y and thinking about the vowel suffix "ing".

We have spent time enjoying different book club activities this week from reading magazine, newspapers and short comprehension activities. We have also spent some time reading with an adult.

Our English descriptive writing has come to an end with our hot writes. We have used our working walls and shared writes to think about our class targets and how we can achieve them. Handwriting has also been our focus along with our spellings.

Big Art has been on our minds this week. We have now completed our Modroc caves and will use these to add our cave drawings and create our own stone age cave. We have had great fun using our Modroc as we hadn't used this art media before.

Nested loops have been our computing focus this week as we have tried to sit loops inside nested loops. Programming in this way definitely challenged us. Using pixels and repeated turns enabled us to draw shapes.

Our clay tools were taken into the Mesolithic period of the Stone Age this week as we added handles and created a clan find. Our tools are now on display along with items from our Bingo homework.

We enjoyed our Forest Schools session with our buddies using clay to create minibeasts. A great afternoon of activities.

Interfaith Week has taken place in school which has got us all thinking about shared values of service. We used the story Rainbow Crow to understand our focus. Year 6 think that the moral of this story is to think of others before yourself. We then went on to create our own sgraffito using pastels and scratching tools. We displayed our artwork in a special worship and enjoyed seeing what other classes had created.

Our duet task was the focus in music this week. We only had note E to play, but we had to follow the onscreen note lengths and our part alone. This was very tricky. We will continue with this next week.

In French we used our previous knowledge of counting to 100 to showcase our speaking and listening skills during our partner task. We chose a multiple of 10 as our starting number and then we worked our way along to the next ten. As an extra challenge we counted backwards too.

We have also taken part in two PE sessions with Mrs Jenkins and Sportscape.

SpaG homework has been set with a focus on relative clauses. We are working our way through word classes and have now completed this area. Your child may also have phonics homework to complete which they can complete over the week. We are thinking about our reading at home and moving through our Big Cat range of books. Please could you support your child to read their books as often as possible.

We are off to church on Monday to enjoy our RE lesson with Reverend Alison. We are looking for signs of salvation within a church building. We will be walking down to church for a morning lesson. Both Mrs Whittingham and Miss Tripp will be supporting our visit.

What a week of diverse activities. We have loved them all and now deserve a weekend of rest. Have a good one.

Your teacher.
Mrs B.
