Another week has flown by and it has been a jam-packed one. We have worked our socks off and I am so proud of you all.

We have continued to work with fractions in maths and completed our unit. We have also completed two end of term assessments, an arithmetic and a reasoning paper. Well done. Super work Year 6.

We have worked hard in English to word bank and place ourselves in the shoes of people in our story. We have used transitional phrases to write flashbacks and we will use all our hard work to finish our writing off next week. We have also completed an end of term spelling and grammar paper.

In book club this week have completed our end of term reading assessments and enjoyed bits of the story "Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. We have completed this unit ready for a new one after Christmas.

We have nearly completed our science unit on light this week. We have one final experiment – making periscopes – which will use to become school spies. Please can you remind your child to bring in a cereal box on Monday? We have a couple in already. We now know about angles and what degree they need to be reflected at to make a periscope work.

We have begun to design our web-pages this week in computing using our web-page ideas sheets. We now need to check they present well on different devices.

We are well on our way with our sculptures in art. They are now ready for stands to be added. We will complete these after Christmas and create an art gallery for you to enjoy.

We turned to enquiry questions in geography this week as we thought about a sustainable school. We discussed different areas of school we can impact and we will now think about our research.

In RE this week we found out all about the prophets related to candle one of the advent wreath and John the Baptist related to candle two. We thought about the messages behind the prophets Isaiah and Micah. We used comic drawings to think about our learning.

We have begun our Christmas service practices this week. Some children have words to learn. Please could you help them to memorise their lines in readiness for Thursday next week. We are looking forward to sharing it with you. If you are able to walk down to church with us, please let me know. Our service is at St Chads and begins at 9.30am. We will be leaving school around 9am.

In music this week we have enjoyed rehearsing our Christmas carols and we have also enjoyed our PE lessons.

We loved our trip to the New Vic Theatre this week to see the Nutcracker – what a performace it was. The dancing was just brilliant.

We finished our week off with some buddy time which we always enjoy.

Most of us are up to date with all of our homework. Please can you use this week to ensure your child has no outstanding homework? I have not set any homework for this week as I think a week of Year 6 assessments is more than enough.

Have a wonderful weekend.
Your teacher,

Mrs B.
