Can you believe it? Another term has come and gone. It has been amazing to think about the amount of curriculum we have covered, including all the extra-curricular activities too. You have built up your resilience over the weeks and you are certainly working at a steady pace. Well done Y6. I am enormously proud of you all.
In English this week we completed our unit on poetry. We used a WH Auden poem from the well-known film Four Weddings and a Funeral to think about emotion and how this is shown in this poem. We then went on to reread the first chapter of Wolf Brother and picked out all the key phrases that we could use in our own poem. We created our own poems filled with emotion and used our model poem as a scaffold. We then performed our poetry to Mrs Chesters who was moved to tears. A brilliant end to your week of poetry Y6.
In Maths this week we have continued to work with percentages and continued to use those that we have identified as friendly. We have used these in many ways and we will continue our learning next term. We have had some time on TT Rock Stars and we have played different games using our percentage knowledge.
In Book Club this week we ensured all returning children have read with an adult and have changed reading books ready for our half term break. We have spent time enjoying our class text too.
Our Computing lesson this week focused on sprites and how to add print blocks using Code Studio. We thought about private and personal information and after creating new characters we ensured they only shared their messages safely.
In Science this week we focused on investigating the need to evolve? We were introduced to the Bird Beak Buffet. This experiment allowed us to think about natural selection. We used everyday objects to model different bird beaks and gathered different types of food up into "stomachs" also known as paper cups! We predicted which beak would gather the widest variety of food and why. We completed a data collection table which we will analyse next week.
In History this week we all became archaeologists. We began our lesson by closing our eyes and listening to a terrible storm. This storm had uncovered a settlement and we were asked to investigate it. Using photos and findings from the settlement, we gave our first impressions of Skara Brae. We thought about the uses of each area and found out that this was a Neolithic settlement. We will continue with this learning next term.
We enjoyed our final Forest School lesson this week where our focus was on nature. We used different ways of presenting our findings from poetry to songs to drawings. All were brilliant. We enjoyed firing our arrows during archery and we also spent some time around the fire roasting marshmallows. Thank you, Mr Hadfield. We have loved all our sessions.
We have taken part in a PSHE lesson and a PE lesson.
Thank you to our PTA team who came up with the brilliant idea of breaking the rules for a day. We had all sorts of broken rules and had fun seeing what everyone had been up to.
I haven't set any homework to complete over the half term as I think a well-deserved break has been earned by all. Enjoy the lie ins and perhaps some time outside, but more importantly enjoy your family time.
Thank you for all your support and I wish you a very happy half term break.
Your teacher,
Mrs. B.
