What a strange week we have had. It has been a week of two halves, one taking place in school and the other taking place at home. Thank you for all your well wishes and for supporting your children at home if they have been accessing my home learning tasks. I know how tricky this is to keep on top of.

A huge thank you to Mrs Whittingham who has taught Y6 all week and for part of last week in my absence. Mrs Whittingham you are a star and I really appreciate all your help and your consistent approach. We have chatted each day and talked through the next steps for those children in school. I know Mrs Whittingham is very proud of all the children in class as she knows how hard you have all worked. I have tried to keep a consistent approach to home learning to match in-school activities. Well done home learners, you are stars too.

We have spent our time this week in maths investigating percentages. From understanding percentages to be out of 100, to finding friendly percentages to support our calculations your knowledge is definitely growing. We will continue with this concept next week. We have all worked hard on our early morning starters and used our fluency skills to tackle an end of week arithmetic paper. We are now trying to solve those percentage questions too. We have had time playing on TT Rock Stars and we have also completed a times table test. Great work Y6.

Book club this week has been a read with an adult. If you have been home learning, you have also completed word quizzes. Some children in school have been catching up with their book reviews too. Thank you Y6.

During our English lessons this week, we have focused on the elements of a poem. We have read poems, we have created poems, we have used poems to understand comprehension questions and we have worked on our simile and metaphor skills too. We will continue with this unit next week.

Whether you were home learning, or working in our classroom, you have completed our final adaptation lesson using the cheetah features. You have thought about their uses and what it would be like for a cheetah to exist without these features. If you were in school, you also played the survival game. I wonder who won? We will continue to investigate inheritance, adaptation and evolution next week by enjoying a brown finch experiment.

During our RE lesson this week, we all researched charities. We thought about different Christian charities and how they support the kingdom of God. We had the freedom to present our findings in our own way and I can't wait to see them all.

Our Computing lesson this week was a Code Studio one. We are in the middle of understanding sprites and used this lesson to embed our knowledge. If you were in school, you helped each other with this task and if you were at home, you completed your hour of code.

Forest schools was enjoyed by those children in class this week. If you were home learning you had a chance to go outside and make a bird's nest. Some of you made home dens and many of you enjoyed time in them with your pets.

PE has taken place this week both in class and at home.

If you have been in class this week, you have thought about our ideas for our Courageous Advocacy song. I wonder which one you have chosen. I think you have also begun to think about the lyrics too.

Unfortunately, due to Covid and the high cases in Y6, we have not met with our favourite buddies. Hopefully this will take place soon. We miss you Reception and hope you are working hard and having lots of fun.

I have uploaded photos from the week I was in school as unfortunately I don't have any from this week. They are great ones and include all of our class.

I am hoping to be back in class on Monday and hope to see many of you there too. Thank you to Mrs Chesters for keeping me up to date with the comings and goings of my class. I know how difficult it is to monitor and how busy you have been with all the absences.

New homework is set, and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Your teacher.

Mrs. B.
