Another week has flown by and it has been a jam-packed one. Amongst many activities we have enjoyed our WW2 theme day and what a fantastic day it was.

We have continued to work with fractions in maths this week. Multiplying and dividing fractions by whole numbers has been our focus. We have used different problems to show our determination and I am extremely proud of you all. We now understand the process of these calculations and we will apply our knowledge when completing our arithmetic tests. We have brushed up on our times tables playing TT Rock Stars and completed our end of term assessments. All done. Super work Y6.

Our english lessons this week have been used to begin our studywork books. We are working hard on our final book to ensure it is our best.

In book club this week have completed a reading assessment and enjoyed our class story. We have about 20 pages left of our story and each day we leave it on a cliff-hanger. Next week we will find out the ending and what happens to the main characters.

Our history lesson continued with Steven Frank and his granddaughter taking them on his journey to Auschwitz. We discussed the content of the film and reflected on our own thoughts. Your discussion and thoughtfulness towards Steven Frank were clear to see Y6. We were then introduced to the term Arboretum and using a map had a look at the site in Staffordshire. We were also given a photo of a Maurice Blik sculpture of an evacuation scene. Using our knowledge, we labelled it carefully. We have now completed our history unit and we are busy creating our study work page to reflect some of our learning.

In geography this week we continued to look at OS map symbols. Using 4 figure and 6 figure grid references was the main focus of our learning. We used our prior knowledge of OS symbols to identify key landmarks on a map of London. Looking at an example of an OS map gave us the opportunity to learn all about eastings and northings as coordinates. We learnt that each square refers to 1km in real life, and to find an exact location, we can use 6 figure grid references. We quickly built on these skills to use four figure references like 23,45 and six figures like 219,345 to crack a code. Our geography unit is now complete. Great job Y6.

We used all our skills learnt over the last few weeks in DT to create our 3d poppies. With relaxing music being played in the background, we used resilience and determination to bring our designs alive. Our products are nearly there, and they will take pride of place on the front covers of our studywork books when finished. You have worked hard Y6. Well done.

Research skills have been used in RE this week as we investigated Christmas customs from around the world that showed what the incarnation means to them. We evaluated the impact of what each custom showed about the incarnation.

We have taken part in cricket this week and shared our WW2 dance moves too.

For music this week, we discussed the themes of all of our wartime songs. Emotions and lifestyles were frequent contributions, as well as how rich or poor families were. We sounded amazing!

What a brilliant WW2 theme day we had this week. Seeing you in all your different outfits brought a smile to my face and you all looked brilliant. We began the day recording our Alan Turing films using iMovie. We used props and written scripts to pack our films full of interesting facts. We will now review and edit our recordings. We then created 3d war planes, poppies and room decorations in readiness for our afternoon tea party. Dressed to impress you were seated in our tea-room. I served you tea and coffee (orange and blackcurrant) before you tucked into the treats set out on your cake stands. We played WW2 music and took to the dance floor. We ended our dancing with a short show of moves learnt in your PE lessons. To finish our day, we enjoyed the beginning of Goodnight Mr Tom. We will finish this film next week. Thank you for all your party food and the use of your cake stands. Thank you for all your support in making our Theme Day a memorable one. I'm sure you will agree from our photos that our day went off with a bang. Please click onto my website update to view all photos.

Homework has been set. This week it is Spag.com and focuses on areas we have identified from our recent SATs sample paper we looked at together.

Have a wonderful weekend Y6. You have worked so hard and I am proud of you all.

Your teacher.
