Can you believe it? Another half term has come and gone. It has been amazing to think about the amount of curriculum we have covered. You have built up your resilience over the weeks and you are certainly working at a steady pace. Well done Y6. I am enormously proud of you all.

In Maths this week we have worked our way through our measurements unit. Using our conversion knowledge and stem sentences we have calculated different metric units. Knowing that powers of 10, 100 and 1000 are useful facts when working with metric units has helped us to convert with success. We have used this knowledge to use hands-on resources to convert as a class. We will move onto converting miles into km and then onto imperial measures when we return after half term.

We have continued to brush up on our SpaG skills this week in English. We have focused on the subject, verb and object of a sentence and then looked at how to identify active and passive voice. We finished our learning off with a game of snakes and ladders using passive voice questions.

In Book Club this week we ensured all children have read with an adult and have changed reading books ready for our half term break.

We have begun to think about the sh sound in spellings this week. We looked at the ti and ci sounds and how they make the sh sound in different words. We know to look at the root words to help us to decide which sh sound to use.

We welcomed two visitors into school this week completing our Interfaith celebrations. Mathew and Michelle came in to talk to us about their religions – Christianity and Judaism. We listened carefully to their talks and enjoyed looking at their artefacts too.

We have completed our RE spring focus this week with our assessment. We have created our own stain glass window designs using all the signs of salvation we spotted in church last week. We will put the finishing touches to our pieces soon. We can definitely answer our big question – where in a church are there signs of salvation?

We completed our science investigation this week on classification. We used newly discovered amphibians to create our own classification keys. After researching their features, we came together as a table team to classify them. We will test our keys before we move on to our next science unit.

We have enjoyed our PE lesson with Mrs Jenkins this week. Before we began we reminded ourselves of all the sporting qualities we should share with each other. We thought about how we could support each other and share our skills in a positive way.

In Music this week we moved forward with our glockenspiel learning as we played notes, C, D, E and F to a piece of music entitled – Mardi Gras Groovin'. This piece was tricky to follow at times. The semibreve rests tripped us up as we needed to count for four beats before playing the next note. We will get there.

We enjoyed our French lesson all about town. Using French names we thought about similarities and differences to our own towns.

We ended our final Forest Schools session in style this week as we made flour handprints with our favourite buddies. We enjoyed roasting marshmallows and categorising all the resources ready for a new term. We ended with a visit to the archery area. Thank you, Mr Hadfield. We have loved all our sessions both with and without our buddies.

I haven't set any homework to complete over the half term as I think a well-deserved break has been earned by all. Enjoy the lie ins, and perhaps some time outside, but more importantly enjoy your family time.

Thank you for all your support and I wish you a very happy half term break.
Your teacher,
Mrs. B.
