Welcome Back Y6 – 21.4.23

Welcome back to your final term in Year 6. Your summer term has begun, and the sun has been shining. You have settled back into a busy week and you have all worked so hard. I am proud of you.

We completed our ratio and proportion unit in maths this week thinking about scaling factors and how to present them in a ratio format. We have simplified ratio using common factors, we have used ratio to find values and we have used ratio to find the proportion of a value too. We have also tackled two past SATs papers under timed conditions and of course many of my children have stayed to access my booster sessions. Well done Year 6. We finished our week off enjoying some TT Rock Star fun on our iPads. New maths.co.uk homework has been set to consolidate this learning.

We have used some of our English lessons this week to begin to recap different areas of punctuation and grammar. Our main focus has been on hyphens and how to identify them accurately in a sentence. We have also used some of this time to sit a SATs SpaG practice paper and I have set 10 questions to answer on spag.com to reflect our learning.

We have completed another spelling unit this week using the sion and ssion endings. We will begin a new unit next week.

We have enjoyed two PE lessons this week. One with Mrs Jenkins and one with with Sportscape where we began to practise our hockey skills.

Our afternoon learning has focused on filming Hindu stories in our RE lesson, researching different renewable energies in Geography, enjoying Music and French and supporting Mr Dale's Marathon Madness afternoon of activities. We have also completed two First Aid sessions – one on choking – and the other understanding when to dial 999 taught by PC Nick.

A big shout out to Mr Dale – we hope you have a great run on Sunday and we know you are going to smash it. C'mon Mr Dale – Year 6 are right behind you and we are sending you all our energy, and we have LOADS!!

A fabulous first week back Year 6. You are determined and show dedication in all my tasks and work extremely hard. I am so proud of you all.
