This week has been a whirlwind of learning, filled with exciting discoveries and epic adventures.

In the realm of mathematics, we delved into the secrets of numbers. The quest began with unlocking the mysteries of prime numbers – those special digits that dance to their own tune. But the adventure didn't stop there! We embarked on a journey with squared and cubed numbers, using awesome tools like multi-link cubes and counters to understand how these numbers got their names. Finally, towards the end of the week, we learnt about multiplying by 10, 100, and 1000.

For our English lessons this week, we continued to be inspired by our vehicle text 'FArTHER'. As part of our lessons, we learnt about the power of expanded noun phrases in our sentences, for they can paint a vibrant images in the reader's mind. And if that wasn't enough, we honed our knowledge and ability to write embedded relative clauses during our sentence accuracy work.

In P.E this week, we continued learning about gymnastics and hockey. In gymnastics, we didn't just leap or skip; we conquered the leapfrog jump! Then, in the thrilling world of hockey, we showcased our skills of the straight dribble and the Indian dribble moves whilst playing mini-games. It was a fantastic session where we listened, worked hard and demonstrated how great we are as a class. I am so proud of you! Well done, Year 5.

In Computing, we started our new unit which will be voyage into the world of video-making. Lights, camera, action! In our first lesson, we explored the basics and learned about 'talking heads,' 'close-ups,' and 'panning.' The second lesson took us deeper into the art of filming, with techniques like 'long shot,' 'mid shot,' and 'high angle shot.' We felt like real directors in the making!

In RE, the enchanting Christmas story was our focus. We shared what we could remember about the story, and then found where it was in the Bible. We found two versions of the story. One in the book of Matthew and the other in the book of Luke. We compared the different versions, and discovered that the nativity story is amalgamation of both.

In Geography, we were taken on a a global tour of biomes. From lush rainforests to arid deserts, we learnt that a biome is a large area of land that shares the same climate and soil conditions.

During Design and Technology (DT), we turned into inventors as we explored cam movements. We uncovered the mysteries of snail cams, egg-shaped cams, and ellipse cams, understanding how the shape of these cams effects linear motion. It was lots of fun experimenting with them.

Our PHSE lesson was a compass, as we learnt about how to handle tricky situations, situations where people may want us to do or say something even though we know this isn't the right thing to do. We discussed what the right thing would be and took inspiration from the Bible: "Do not be shaped by this world; instead, be changed within by a new way of thinking." (Romans 12:2).

Our well-being journey included heartfelt discussions about the things we miss – the warmth of summer sunshine, the presence of loved ones, and the companionship of our pets. The alphabet game brought laughter and creativity, making our well-being session a delightful experience for mind and soul.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Miss Pennance
