Year 5 News 09.12.22

I can't believe it's already Friday again. We have been working so hard and learning so much that the days have just whizzed by!

In English this week, we have been busy writing narrative poems. We used one of our five favourite books – The Grotlyn – to inspire us. We learnt about rhyming couplets and onomatopoeia and used them throughout our stanzas. When finished, we wrote them up in neat and decorated them as they are being submitted for a CDAT poetry competition. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

In maths, we continued learning about the perimeter of rectilinear shapes. We learnt how to find the perimeter by accurately measuring. We also learnt that it is important to measure all the sides too!

Throughout the week, we have also been busy practicing for our Christmas service too. We are looking forward to sharing it with you on Tuesday.

During Forest School's this week, we completed a range of interesting activities. First, we created Christmas themed pictures using only sticks and ice. They looked beautiful and definitely made us feel Christmasy. The Christmas theme continued with our next activity. In this one, we created Christmas sculptures out of clay; creating a snowman was popular choice. After that, we practiced our archery skills, and then it was time for making fires and roasting marshmallows. Delicious!

In our afternoons, we have been busy with Study Work, D.T, Science, Music, Computing and P.E. In D.T, we have started making the frames for our automata toys. We will be adding the working mechanisms and decorations to them next week. Exciting! In Science, we completed our final lesson on life cycles. Your end of unit check showed just how much you had learnt. It was very impressive. In Music, you continued to practice your Young Voices songs, and you also practices some Christmas carols. Finally, in Computing, we learnt how to create hyperlinks between slides.
