Happy Friday Everybody!
We have had a fantastic week in Year 5! We hope you have had a great week too. We have worked incredibly hard this week, and I couldn't be prouder of you all! What a great way to start our year.
In maths, we have continued with place value. We have been looking at the value of 5 digit numbers. This has included partitioning them, rounding them and placing them on number lines.
In English, we have been busy getting to know our Talk4Writing Modal text. We have created a toolkit to help us write our own articles, and we have unpicked it's structure whilst completing our 'Boxing Up' task. During our work, I challenged you to do your neatest handwriting and you all rose to the challenge! You tried your hardest and the results were incredible. I'm so proud of you all.
In Reading, we have been investigating non-fiction texts. We have been delving into DK Witness's Victorians book to determine whether Queen Victoria was a 'symbol of British greatness'. After investigating the text, we felt she was.
During our afternoons, our lessons have been focusing on History, Computing, Science, Art, P.E, Music, RE and PHSE. Gosh, we've been busy.
In History, we learnt about the British Empire. We learnt about what it was and any why Britain became empire builders. It led to discussions as to whether or not we think this was a good or bad thing. In Computing, we began our project for this term. You created a GoogleSlides presentation all about you. In this, you showed me what skills you already have. It was great to see that you had remembered so much of your previous knowledge. In Science, we began our unit on forces. In our first lesson, we learnt what forces are and we got to know the key vocabulary that we will be using this term. For Art, we continued working on our 'Big Art' project and we also began our unit of work on William Morris. We have learnt who he was and that he created wallpaper inspired by nature. In R.E, we were introduced to the story of Moses and the Exodus. We learnt about how God spoke to Moses and how he saved the Israelites. This week in music we continued practising our Ghost Parade song. We recapped the notes we needed in order to play and improvise with the song. We created our own rhythms using our glockenspiels. Finally, in PHSE, we discussed healthy media choices. We discussed the importance of thinking about when we access it, how long we access it for and whether what we access is age appropriate. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that did their extra homework task to help us with this.
I hope you all have a great weekend,
Miss P
