Welcome to Year 5! We have had a wonderful first week together. I have loved getting to know you all, and I have enjoyed every minutes of it. I hope you did too.
In maths, we have been learning about place value. We have paid special attention to rounding. In English, we began our Talk4Writing. For this unit, we are focusing on journalistic writing. Our modal text is based on Goldilocks and the Three bears, but it sound very different to the usual fair tale we know and love.
In our afternoons, we have been busy with Big Art! We learnt about how Queen Victoria had portraits and photos taken throughout her life. We are trying our best to recreate some of these iconic paintings using our colouring mixing skills. Queen Victoria was the focus of our computing too. We using websites to carry out research and gather facts about her. We learnt that she had nine children and that she was only 1.52m tall!
You enjoyed P.E with Mrs Jenkins and Ebony from Sportscape this week, and you had your first Music session with Miss Holland. You began our music unit for this term by listening to and appraising a new song entitled 'Ghost Parade.' As this song piece is in the style of – 20th and 21st Orchestral music, you learnt how any instrument can be included in this style of music, as well as audio effects. You had to choose one adjective to describe our initial thoughts at the beginning of the song. Your answers were varied. You discovered the tonality of this song was minor and has a steady tempo throughout the whole piece.
Finally, we finished the week off with French. We looked at different cities within France and compared how they were similar and different to places in the UK. We also learnt how to ask somewhere they live and how to answer too.
Hope you're having a lovely weekend,
Miss P
