Happy Easter Year 5!

You did a wonderful job this morning when you shared the message of the Easter Service with the school community down at St Chads. Those of you with words spoke beautifully, and everyone sang their hearts out. It was a very moving service; a service you should all be proud of.

This week, we also had another John Muir session. This session was our conversation task. For the task, we had to preserve the land by removing trees. This involved cutting down trees by using loppers and saws! You worked together well, and you did a great job using the equipment accurately and safely. Once felled, we then had to cut the trees into smaller chunks and put them onto the fire. You may think cutting down trees is a strange thing to do when conserving nature, but it is very important on the moss because trees drink lots of water which means there wouldn't be a moss! As a reward for all your hard work, we got to toast and eat marshmallows at the end. Yummy!

In D.T, we finished sewing together our cushions. This involved sewing three edges and leaving one open for us to add the stuffing. Once stuffed, we sewed the final edge. This was not always easy, and it was lovely to see how you all supported and helped each other. Look at the photo and see if you can spot your cushion. Aren't they great!

In Geography, we continued learning about the Alpine region. We learnt about the different types of industries that thrive there. Unsurprisingly, tourism dominates. After exploring its impact on the region, we discovered that tourism can effect the region both negatively and positively. In our second Geography lesson of the week, we learnt about avalanches and the methods of prevention and protection that are taken to protect home in the region. We even made our own avalanches using layers of sugar and flour. This was actually quite fun!

In R.E this week, we concluded our unit on Islam. The concept of 'Umma' and 'Tawhid' were our focus as we learnt how these key concepts added to the idea of a Christian community.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter. I can't wait to hear about all the wonderful things you'll be getting up to.

See you in April,

Miss Pennance
