In Maths, our first Geometry lesson gave us the opportunity to make links to all our prior learning about angles. We used this knowledge to venture into the world of identifying different angles. We recognised right angles and then moved onto recognising acute and obtuse angles. Comparing angles in different positions helped us to identify them in a variety of shapes. We have also completed our money unit – showing how we can complete two step problems, how we can complete problem solving involving giving change and using multiplication and division to calculate amounts. We completed our end of unit assessment and had an opportunity to practice for our MTC using the government website so we could see how this would look. We ended our week today by starting a new unit – time. We used this first lesson to recap our learning of time from year 3 by exploring each of the concepts as a team.

In our first English lesson this week, we were presented with evidence that gave clues to find the most important features of a recount. We then used our new model text to identify these features. We identified how it was written in first person, how rhetorical questions are included, and how the writer uses time devices, amongst others. We have continued to explore and even started to write our recounts this week. Most of the class wrote about their experience of PGL. We spent our week considering the skills, recapping the use of emotive language and showing our writing skills through short burst writes. Towards the end of the week, we planned our recounts and have started to write them. You have blown me away with the skills and ideas you have included so far.

In Science, we consolidated all our learning on evaporation. We explored how the particles change from a liquid to a gas. We were then introduced to our new investigation on changing a solid into a liquid. We were very pleased to find out that it will involve chocolate!

We started the week talking about goal setting in my happy mind. We were blown away by the way representatives of our class spoke so confidently about their own goal setting. We heard all about what they did to achieve them, how they felt along the way and at the point when they achieved the goal. We then explored the four key habits taught by my happy mind; happy breathing, strength spotting, active listening and an attitude of gratitude. We decided which on the habit that we could use even more to help make us feel good.

In our RE lessons this week, we have learnt, that as part of our unit, we will be visiting church in a couple of weeks (more information will be emailed out shortly). In preparation for this, we have revisited the similarities and differences between infant and believers baptism. We then compiled a list of questions based around our topic that we would like to ask Reverend Alison.

We started our Geography unit this week. This term, we are learning about earthquakes and volcanoes. As this was the start to our unit, the class used this time to show me what they know. We have a good knowledge of information to kick start our learning.

We have continued with our Art unit this week. We have recapped the process of batik and how this originated. We explored more designs and how using the colour wheel helps with successful design choices. The children then sketched the design they will use for their own batik. We are really looking forward to creating our work over the next couple of weeks.

In French this week, we recapped how to ask for something we would like. We used classroom objects in our conversations and made sure we used, please and thank you.

We combined our Computing and History lessons this week and used our time to research Shang kings and gods. In our last lesson, we evaluated the reliability of sources and started with this in our lesson by reading a myth. We then created amazing posters showcasing what we have learnt.

We have been really lucky to take part in a Sportscape PE session learning more rounders skills.

We have also completed a studywork task this week showcasing our DT learning.

We have set new Spagtastic homework this week. We would also love the children to practice their times table skills over the week if possible.

Have a wonderful weekend.
