We have had such a busy week in Year 4 – creating Batik art, practising our cutting, taking part in sports day and so much more!

In our Maths lessons this week, we have continued to develop our understanding of statistics. We have learnt how to read bar charts, pictograms and line graphs. In some of the pictograms we explored, we looked at how to use the key to work out how much halves and quarters of different pictures represented. We also learnt that line graphs help to display data like temperatures and times and we were able to use a ruler to help us read the information more accurately.

On Wednesday and Thursday, we took part in our sports day events. On the Wednesday, we participated in our field events – javelin, shotgun, long jump and cross country. We loved competing in each activity and moving around each of the stations. On Thursday, we held our Sports Day. It was so lovely to see so many of you there. We had a fantastic time competing in our races and showing our fantastic sportsmanship. I am so proud of the achievements of each and everyone of you!

In our Art lessons this week, we continued to dye our batik fabric. When the wax is removed, it will leave a fantastic line drawing on our fabric. We can't wait to see what these will look like!

In our History lesson this week, we have been learning about the Shang Dynasty rituals. Each pair was given a different element to research from burials to God and goddesses. Using the skills we had learnt in the Autumn term, the class were asked to display what they had learnt in a google slides. The google slides were then shared with the rest of the class at the end of our lesson.

Our DT lessons this week have been based on preparing food, diet, hygiene and safety. We were really impressed with the way you practised your cutting skills using a variety of tools. We learnt how to hold different vegetables in order to cut them safely. We even took part in a French cookery activity. A big thank you to Miss Sophie who delivered this activity.

In RE we talked about how we care for each other and how important brothers and sisters are. This lead us onto learning about a Hindu festival called Raksha Bandhan. This festival celebrates the protection and support siblings give to each other, as well as other family members.

Studywork has also been a focus for this week. The children have showcased our wellbeing activities, Geography work and Computing work in their books this week. They look fantastic and we cannot wait to share them with you at the end of the year.

For this week, we have set Spag.com homework. Please take a look and check if you have completed the work from last week.
