In our Writing lessons, we have been exploring the text. At the beginning of the week, we completed our writers knowledge task to identify the key features of our example text.In our lessons, we have worked on developing a character description from the text. We chose to look particularly at the wolf – Fenrir. We gathered images and found phrases and adjectives to describe the wolf. We also held a hot seat task asking the other characters in the text to explain what they saw and how they felt when they saw the wolf. This gave us some great ideas for our character description. We completed the role on the wall task using the outline of a wolf to record our ideas. At the end of the week, we have started to plan and write paragraph 1.

In Maths this week, we have been learning more about multiplication. This week, we learnt about correspondence problems. This simply means how calculations relate. We used this to help us to work out combinations, for example, how many outfits you would have if you had 3 tops and 2 pairs of shorts. We have then moved on to learn about efficient multiplication. We learnt about simplifying calculations to help find answers. We found factor pairs of larger numbers to multiply three one digit numbers instead of larger numbers (two digit by one digit numbers). For example, if we had 36 x 5 we could do 12 x 3 x 5 = 60 x 5. On Wednesday, we completed this unit and used the end of unit check to recap the unit. We were then introduced to our next topic, Perimeter. We became familiar with new vocabulary and used our key facts to convert kilometres into metres.

In our Reading lessons, we have enjoyed our big cat and challenge books.

In spellings this week, we have continued to learn about the sc spelling pattern and we begun to think about the sion ending in words like division, confusion and decision.

In our last Dodgeball lesson, we learnt all about having good peripheral awareness as we adapted to playing games with different rules. What a great job Year 4! We were very impressed with the way you adapted to all of the games, and the way you selected other team members for their sportsmanship.

In Science, we explored the meaning of what a circuit is, drew circuit diagrams and made predictions to whether a lamp would light within a circuit. We quickly identified if the circuit was complete or incomplete, and worked out if the components were connected correctly.

RE has been a focus of this week. As part of interfaith week, we took part in a fantastic worship led by Imran. We enjoyed hearing about the importance of Islam to him and how he follows the five pillars of Islam throughout his life. He brought in many great items for us to see. Following on from this, we followed up with a task in class. We started by talking about the kind of clothes pupils like to wear. We then listened to Muslim folk tale of Nasruddin and the banquet. We talked about how people can be judged for what they wear. We reflected on how clothes are just a way of identifying certain groups of people. However, the same applies to all groups of people. It could be the way someone talks, the colour of their skin, their religion or the place they live. We wrote our own reflections to this and even made the link between this lesson and what we have been learning about God – how he only looks at a persons qualities. Not what they are like on the outside.

In our other RE lesson this week, we have learnt about the story of David and Jonathan's unlikely friendship (Samuel: 1). We thought about the important qualities within friendship. We even wrote our own friendship job descriptions.

Year 4 have been really lucky to take part in YoungVoices this week. We went to Manchester arena and have taken part in the largest school choir in the world. We loved taking part, joining in with the songs and dancing! We hope that everyone who came to watch had a fantastic time too.

In our DT lesson this week, we have learnt how to sew two pieces of fabric together. We learnt how to use backstitch to make sure that there were no gaps within the fabric. We used this as an opportunity to create a prototype for our purse and check that it suited the purpose of holding coins (we really used counters).

In our fifth netball lesson this week, we have applied all of our skills to our a netball game. We have enjoyed learning about the positions and taking part in a game.

During our History lesson this week, we have learnt about Henry VIII's six wives. We learnt why he chose to have so many and how the churches were impacted by Henry's choices. At the end of the lesson, we thought about Henry's ideal wife.

In our HeartSmart lesson this week, we have thought about unseen heroes. We thought about all of the important people who work behind the scenes to look after our community. We wrote thank you cards to celebrate these wonderful people. 'When yo do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Instead, be humble and give more honour to others than yourselves. Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others.' Philippians 2:3-4.

Maths.co.uk homework has been set for this week.

Have a wonderful weekend.
