Happy Friday Year 3! This week in English, you have worked hard on sentence accuracy, in particular a or an, using conjunctions and possessive apostrophes. We received a letter from the town mayor of the story and they asked for our help in creating a trap for Iron Man as he is destroying their farming equipment and land! You got busy thinking of ideas and got straight to helping the major by drawing and writing about your designs.

In maths, we moved on to adding and subtracting numbers across 10 so we needed to work on exchanging across columns. We did this first as a team on the carpet on a huge place value chart and then as you got more familiar with the concepts, we had a go independently. Place value grids and base 10 were our maths friends this week!

In Computing, we had our next unplugged lesson learning about digital devices and their input, process and output. You then invented your own digital device with an input, process and output. What device did you create?

In RE this week, we looked at some of the big questions on our questful maps including thinking about what it meant in the Bible when people brought their first and finest of the harvest to God? You also spent time in church telling the important message of Harvest and celebrating by singing, dancing and talking about the importance of Harvest. You were all a very special part of our service and I was very proud of each and every one of you.

In spellings this week, we investigated the prefix im (e.g. impossible). You worked in partners to dictate sentences to each other including these words and looked at expanding your vocabulary focusing on the meanings of some of these words. In our reading lessons, we continued to learn about rocks and gems with a focus this week on features of non fiction and trying to answer questions using information from the text. We have also begun learning about the ous suffix. Year 3, you have impressed us by finding this ending in lots of words, including the title of one of our reading books, Fabulous.

What does it mean to have a healthy lifestyle? We worked hard to answer this in PSHE this week. We decided what the benefits of a healthy lifestyle are, what the risks are, and ways we can help look after our body and mind. This links to the bible quote, 'So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.' 1 Corinthians 10:31

As geographers, we were keen showcase all our knowledge of the lines of latitude and longitude by drawing these on a model of a globe. We then thought about a new line, the international date line, and worked together to create actions to remember that this is an imaginary line, marks the change of one day to the next, and that it passes through the Pacific Ocean. We also used a web cam to see what the time in Rome would be, and we discovered that it is one hour ahead.

In football this week, year 3 have worked more on getting into a space after passing. We discussed how we can overload a defender when moving the ball forward by working as a team – passing quickly, moving past our team mates and getting into a position to outnumber a defender. We practised this in small teams ready for a class tournament at the end of the unit.

In music this week, we were very excited to play our ukuleles with our new picks. First of all, we played 'My dog has fleas' using open strings; strumming with our finger. Then, we practised our timings using the picks. This led us on to playing 'My dog has fleas' using our picks.

We hope you have had a lovely weekend.
