Welcome back Y3 to our new half term. We have had another lovely week with lots of learning, fun and challenges along the way!

In English this week we have focused on publishing our work into proper books by using our best handwriting, writing in pen and also creating front covers for our iron man books. Once these are all finished and put together, we would love to invite parents in for our author evening to share our new books. Watch this space! We have also spent time on sentence accuracy work this week, using our sentence checkers independently and in pairs. I can really see a difference in the accuracy and word choices of your writing since completing our sentence accuracy starters. Well done Y3 writers!

In maths this week, we have finished our second unit in addition and subtraction. We have focused on three digit numbers adding or subtracting 1 or 2 digit numbers. Our strategy has been exchanging if needed and we found that place value grids helped us hugely with these maths problems. We have also played Daily Ten this week with a big focus on number bonds to 10 as we know now just how important these are to every calculation we do in maths. We challenge ourselves at the beginning of the week to get to 3 seconds per answer and wow, you did it!

In RE this week, we have been finishing off our unit all about harvest. We have answered the questions "why do communities celebrate harvest?" And "how to Christians celebrate harvest?" You came up with some beautiful answers and the discussions around the table were lovely to hear. Some of our favourite answers included 'feeling stronger together', 'to feel joy' and 'feeling closer to God'.

In well-being this week, we looked at what makes us smile? We shared lots of lovely ideas and they made me smile a lot! We put on some calming music and this time shared another way to feel calm. This time it was butterfly taps. Can you show your adult at home how they work? You then drew in your journals what made you smile. These were lovely to see and talk about.

Our forest school sessions returned this week! We were very excited and listened carefully to Mr Hadfield and what he had to teach us this week. We saw lots of different animal skulls and stroked or even put our hands inside a lion skull's jaw! Me Hadfield set us the challenge of creating a home for a hedgehog which had to offer protection from predators and provide warmth, food and shelter for hibernation. You worked incredibly well in your teams, showing focus, determination and teamwork skills. We ended the session with a fire pit and marshmallow toasting. The sun even shone for us all morning. I already can't wait for next week!

Our PSHE learning this week gave us the opportunity to reflect on our learning last term. This links to the bible quote; Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23. We decided how we could love ourselves and others more and thought about what are next steps might be.

In geography, we have come to the end of our unit and our highlights have been singing, using digimaps and learning about the lines of longitude and latitude. This week, we saw a photo of Mrs Pointon standing on the equator in Uganda. We then used our map skills to try and find where that might be. We worked carefully to locate countries in our atlas and shared lots of fast track top tips that we found independently. It was great to hear how we can use the index and the grid reference code to find places on a map.

Have a lovely weekend Y3.

Miss McCurrie and Mrs Pointon
