Happy Friday Year 3! You have worked very hard this week and have shown resilience, kindness and team work throughout the week.

This week in English, we used all of our learning about Iron Man to write a character description about him! You used similes in particular, describing his eyes "as bright as the sun" and his body "as tall as a skyscraper". We then looked at lots of works with prefixes and suffixes in the example text and after exploring the meanings of these words, we set to writing our own sentences with these words in. Your homework is linked to prefixes this week on spagtastic.com. It has been lovely to see our sentence accuracy activities build throughout the week too. Today, we practised adding an apostrophe to show possession.

In Maths this week, we focused in on ordering and comparing numbers to 1000, counting in 50s and plotting numbers on blank number lines. You had some times table practise too and completed your end of unit assessment. I am looking forward to starting a new unit next week with you all.

In the afternoons this week, you have learnt about when the Romans came to Britain and which parts of the world they conquered. You have located Italy, Britain and lots of other countries occupied by the Romans using an atlas and google maps.

Well-being time this week saw us talking about what we love and you had some time with your journals creating a page all about what and who is special to you.

In art this week, we explored the artist Henry Matisse and found out he had a very unique style of painting – not with paint or pencils but instead...painting with scissors. We saw lots of his art work and watched videos of him in action and decided to have a go ourselves. We made lots and lots of mess(!) but had so much fun! You were so pleased with your creations! What do you think of them?

Lines of latitude, longitude and different time zones all featured within our Geography learning this week. We noted down our learning that we completed practically last week in our books. It was great to see how day and night occurs using a globe and a torch.

In PSHE, we explored the word guard as a starting point and we learnt that our hearts sometime need protecting. This then helps us protect our emotions and feelings. It was interesting to hear examples of how we might guard our heart in school and at home. This is linked to the Bible quote In conclusion, my friends, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honourable. Philippians 4:8

This week in PE you had your football lesson with Mrs Whittingham and PE session with James. I was so impressed with how you all joined in and gave it your best.

Thank you for the Bingo Board homework and book reviews that are coming in thick and fast! You are working as hard at home as you are in school. Have a lovely weekend,

Miss McCurrie and Mrs Pointon
