Another busy week has whizzed by in Y3. In maths we have completed our place value unit, this week focusing on estimations mainly on number lines, with numbers up to and including 1000! Your place value knowledge is fantastic and you put in great effort all week too. You have maths homework set this week on maths.co.uk too.
In English, we have continued to read the story Iron Man by Ted Hughes. This week we have focused on character description, finding out all we can about Iron Man. We also acted out the part in the story when Iron Man came to Hogarths village and you then shared them with the class. These were great to watch. Some of you even volunteered to narrate your scenes and the story language you used was fantastic! We have also worked hard to write our sentences accurately.
In our spellings lessons, we have learnt all about prefixes and you were then so eager to find them in your reading, other subjects and our example text!
In design and technology this week, we investigated Roman chariots and what they were used for. We found out that charioteers were very brave and also it was a very dangerous sport! We decided we are going to design our own chariots so got to work investigating different parts of chariots. We looked at toy cars and investigated their wheels, axles, body and chassis. You then drew the cars and labelled the parts. We then looked at a 3D chariot and all of its different parts and made our own prototype just out of paper. We then discussed what we would need to make our own chariots and looked at examples that other people had made, as well as lots of different Roman chariot designs.
In our computing lessons we learnt all about digital devices. We grouped objects to decide if they were digital devices or not and decided on what made something a digital device or not. We used a camera and saw it had an input, process and output and applied this to lots of other digital devices in school and our homes. We also had some time left so got some tt rock stars and spagtastic time.
In our well-being time this week, we thought about our favourite colours and doodled and drew using these colours in our journals. We also discussed how we could feel calm using the counting strategy which is thinking of a number and counting on or back from that number until we feel calmer.
We continued to look at scale in our Geography lesson. However, this time we have zoomed out to look at places that are near to our school. We found places that were in each compass direction in the North, South, East and West. We built upon our knowledge of the imaginary lines on maps to learn about the lines of latitude. We used our maps to find the equator, the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn and sung a latitude song.
You also enjoyed a music lesson with Miss Holland using the glockenspiels, a sports lesson with James and a football lesson with Mrs Whittingham. What a busy week!
Thank you for all of your book reviews, they are so wonderful to read and I have loved seeing you enjoy our Y3 books so much.
Have a lovely weekend.
