In English, we had the opportunity to practise writing contractions using an apostrophe. We thought about which letters are taken away when we add an apostrophe. We came to the end of our unit all about Iron Man, writing the final paragraph of our 'Approaching Threat' narrative. You have written fantastic pieces, using all of your learning from this half term. We used the resources all around the room, including the word banks, working walls, key phrases and our plans. We are now planning to make these into books, creating our front covers this week with watercolours too.
We used our pattern spotting skills and our place value skills to add one digit numbers during our Maths fluency time on Friday. It was great to hear all the steps we have been learning this week and you shared them so confidently amongst your friends. We loved seeing you use place value charts to exchange numbers carefully, well done!
It was lovely to spend time learning more about Black History Month. Within our lesson, we studied Barack Obama who is the first black president of the USA. A famous painting was commissioned of Barrack during his presidential campaign and this gave us the idea to complete our own posters with inspirational words. We noticed the choice of colours were the same as the American flag and we thought carefully why the word hope was included. We firstly followed steps to create a portrait of Barrack and then we explored his life so far by learning lots of fun facts. We added our facts and thoughts onto our posters. We also enjoyed reading a story about Michelle Obama and it was interesting to make connections between their lives and their ambitions to aim high.
We thought about our Harvest service in RE this week and asked questions we wanted to find out, which has now formed part of our display. We were able to answer some of these questions too, drawing on our own experiences of being part of Harvest service and other services in our school life. Our big question of the week for RE was 'why do communities celebrate Harvest?'. We worked in small teams to discover what a 'community' is and thought about what communities we are in. One community we all had in common was our Y3 community. We then started to answer our big question which we will finish next week.
Have a lovely weekend,
