You have had another super week in Y2 team and I am so proud of the progress you are making.
In English, we have finished our writing on our river stories. Just, WOW! You have carefully planned and wrote each paragraph and they are fantastic to read. Our focus for our first write was keeping our presentation and handwriting neat, using capital letters and full stops and even using some adjectives. You have definitely been successful with this! On your own adventures through the river you have visited the smoky city, the luscious fields and even the open sea. Well done team!
In phonics you have been continuing to review your sounds, read longer words and read your new stories! I am seeing so much progress with your reading fluency now. Keep up with the hard work!
You are now experts on your numbers to 100 as we finish our topic on this. This week you have been comparing your numbers using crocodile symbols and even using mathematical language of 'greater than, fewer than and equals to'. You were so good at this! Towards the end of the week you were practicing counting in your 2s,5s and 10s and we even had a go at counting in 3s. We loved watching videos and songs to help us with this!
Why is the bible a holy book to Christians? This was our question this week in RE as you thought carefully about how the bible guides Christians on how to follow in Jesus' footsteps. We learnt about how the bibles were written on scrolls that were found in jars in a cave. You retold the story of the Dead Sea scrolls through acting it out and then did some fantastic writing in your book.
In your wellbeing activity this week you looked at what your favourite colour is and why? And you also thought about what makes you smile. I love when you share your well-being journals with me as it really helps me to get to know you and I now know that you have lots to smile about.
In history, you looked at the history of trains and learnt that George Stephenson invented the first steam locomotive, which was called the rocket. You then learnt about the positive and negative impacts of the railway. Did you know that the invention of the railway brought more crime into towns and villages? Did you know that it meant people around the country could visit the seaside.
In computing, you continued learning about information technology. You thought about the IT that you could find inside and outside.
In geography, we had a lovely lesson outside on the field as we completed some fieldwork. You thought carefully about what your favourite landmarks around our local area are and why they were your favourite. We had such lovely answers. You then completed some fieldwork by going outside to use our senses to think about what we can see, hear, smell and touch from just being on our school field.
In heart smart, you were learning to identify the sources of power. You thought about how you can turn your power on by being kinder to others.
We danced along to a new song called 'Hey Friends.' We swayed, clapped, read the lyrics and also counted how many times the word – friends was sung. We looked back at our first lesson of this half-term. We thought about the social question – how does music bring us together? Even though some of us did not enjoy this song, we could see how we connected during the song by listening to the lyrics, moving to the beat and enjoying the atmosphere
Today in PE, year 2 discussed which sports or games we play that include dodging. We talked about how to dodge someone or something and how we need to move quickly from one foot to another, sideways, keeping on the balls of our feet. When we had warmed up and modelled good dodging, we played some games that included all the skills we have worked on as far this term. We finished with a little plank competition to strengthen our cores.
Have a wonderful weekend team.
