The Christmas spirit is in full swing as Year 2 complete their penultimate week before the Christmas holidays. There's been advent calendars, Christmas songs and roaring fires at Forest School time.

In English this week, we spent time focusing upon possessive apostrophes. We discussed when and why we use them and from this were able to write some fantastic sentences. We used our new found knowledge to plan and create a hot write on Friday. We thought about Christmas morning and produced some fantastic paragraphs filled with possessive apostrophes, adverbs and amazing adjectives.

In Maths, we continued our new unit on multiplication and division. We thought about different representations for the times tables. Throughout the week, we used part wholes, bar models, repeated additions and picture stories. From this, we were able to answer a series of reasoning problems throughout our Power Maths lessons. On Friday, we completed both of our Maths quizzes and we were brilliant at using all of our methods and strategies to help us with a range of arithmetic and reasoning problems, well done!

In Reading and Phonics we continued to recap key sounds, spellings and practised our comprehension skills throughout the week. You all continued to read well at home and I'm blown away by the amazing book reviews you continue to be leaving!

We continued our new unit in Science this week which focuses upon animals including humans. We focused upon survival and thought about ranking the most important things needed for survival. We figured out that air, water and food were definitely the most important. We also spent time thinking about what dogs need for survival and realised this was very similar to humans. We then discussed exercise and found out about our pulses! We completed a series of exercises to think about our pulses and how our heart rate increased and decreased.

On Wednesday, we took part in our sixth Forest School session. We braved the weather once more and got stuck into our learning! We built hashtag fires, completed some huge shelters and even managed to do some more archery too! Last week will be our last session and we have loved every moment.

We had P.E on Friday. Hayley was very impressed with us all as completed a series of Just Dance workouts, well done!

In Computing this week, we completed our project. We used the app, Kahoot, to create some fantastic quizzes. We used true or false and quiz questions to create interactive quizzes that we could all play. We used a range of computing skills including inputting, typing and uploading. Well done, team!

Wow year 2! You blew my socks off this week in music! You were super confident in holding your recorder, playing notes B and A as well as learning how to play note G. You copied back rhythms using these three notes and your timing is improving so much. Great work!

In our first D.T session, we discussed our new unit all about food. We talked about how we can stay safe in the kitchen whilst preparing food. We moved onto thinking about safe and unsafe scenarios in the kitchen and how we can avoid unsafe or unhygienic situations. We created a table and watched Miss Hewitt's demonstration. She did some things wrong and we had to decide what they were. Well done, Year 2!

We also took part in worship throughout the week. Our favourite was definitely watching Year 1 explain their courageous advocacy work on saving the trees.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Mr Dale
