We are fully back into the swing of things now in Year 2. This week we've been sculptures, historians and of course, snowman builders!

In English, we entered the shared writing stage of our T4W journey. We boxed up the story as well as thinking about our writing toolkit. From there, we were able to change and adapt parts of the story to build a fantastic defeating the monster narratives. We edited throughout the week and focused upon our joined handwriting. They were fantastic to read and I'm looking forward to our hot writes next week.

Throughout the week, we focused on the washing line joins, these are letters that join from the top, we were able to keep our handwriting beautifully neat this week.

In reading, we changed our challenge books and continued with phonics and steps to read. During steps to read, we were able to look at a series of poems and use inference to think about a range of different questions.

In Maths, we completed our unit on multiplication and division. We spent time thinking about how the bar model can help us unpick tricky word problems and continued counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10. We also spent time building our fluency knowledge using methods such as numbers lines (our rulers), step counting, column methods and the shark fin method. On Friday, we were so excited to log into our TTROCKSTARS accounts for the first time. It was amazing to see your times tables skills on show. Well done – keep it up!

During our second MyHappyMind session, we continued to look at our new focus all about "Appreciate". We completed happy breathing exercises and explored how we can appreciate ourselves as well as others. This directly linked to our HeartSmart lesson this week as we thought about times that we've made someone else feel good. Too Much Selfie isn't Healthy! Lord, you have examined me. You know all about me. You know when I sit down and when I get up. You know my thoughts before I think them. You know where I go and where I lie down. You know everything I do. Lord, even before I say a word, you already know what I am going to say. Psalm 139:1-4

In R.E this week, we continued to answer our new BIG question all about salvation and how stories in the bible link to this. We recapped our learning from last week by looking closely at our artwork. We shared our guesses as to what our first story might be about. We then listened and watched the stories. After this, we used role play to act-out Jesus Calms the Storm. We thought about the storms we come up against in our own lives and how Christians believe that speaking to God and living their lives through Jesus can help to calm their storms. Well done, Year 2!

In History, we started our new unit all about farming. And what better place to start than the first farmers? This meant travelling back thousands and thousands of years to the stone age. We learnt all about hunter gatherers and how this led to the first farmers. We explored some of their first tools and linked this to the farm tools that are available to us today.

Hands, Feet and Heart was the song title of our song this week in music. The lyrics made us think about music being part of our soul, how it can make us happy, and how it can make us want to dance.

In Art, we completed our sculpture unit. We used all the techniques we have learnt along the way to design, build and perfect our very own clay chicken egg pot. We added paint to our dried pots and once evaluated next week, they will form part of a fantastic study work page!

During Forest School this week, we used the snow and lots of it! We spent time building snow dens, snow sculptures and finished our session by toasting warm marshmallows over the fire to keep warm.

On Thursday, it snowed! We absolutely loved playing out on the field and it was so lovely to see you all enjoying yourselves. What a magical day!

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Dale
