Year 2 farming trip 26.03.24

What a spectacular day you have all had on your faming trip.

We had a short journey to Kynsal farm in Audlem where we were greeted by Kelly, Ed, Katy and Kelly's three children who all welcomed us to their dairy farm. Once we had put on our boots, we then became little farmers. We started by going on a tour of the farm and meeting all of the different breeds of cows as we went through. You asked so many amazing questions! Towards the end of the tour we met all of the calves, you just couldn't believe how cute they were. You met and petted calves that were only a day old!

After a quick snack in the barn, it was time to learn about the production of milk and the journey it goes on to get in your glass cup. You sorted out cards so that you could see the whole journey. It was then time to go down to the milking parlor to see the cows getting milked. You learnt about the importance of cleaning the teets and how the machines know when the cows have stopped milking. You found out that milking doesn't hurt the cows and that they need to be milked three times a day to stay healthy! You were shown how the milk goes through cooling pipes and is stored in a huge refrigerated tank so that it can stay fresh.

Towards the end of the day, Kelly took us down to her fields where you rolled, played and skipped through the long grass. It was so lovely to watch you have so much fun!

It was then time to say our goodbyes as we washed our boots and hands. A huge thank you to all of the staff who came along on the trip and helped out. Another huge thank you to Kelly and Katy for leading our trip today and for bringing our topic to life. The children have had such a memorable day and we are so grateful!
